Pietro "Peter" Muraca

Pietro "Peter" Muraca, age 78 years, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 21, 2012. Pietro was born on February 4, 1934 in Sambiase, Lamezia Terme, Italy. He arrived in Canada on January 5, 1957 and worked construction for Barnett-McQueen. He met Maria D'Angelo and married her on October 27, 1962. He then worked for the family business D'Angelo Bros. Ltd. Later, Pietro owned and operated an apartment building and was also employed at Abitibi Provincial Papers, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. A long-time member of the Italian Centennial Hall and St. Anthony's RC Church, Pietro enjoyed spending time with family and friends, socializing, playing cards and listening to music. He was very proud of his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. He loved spending time outdoors sitting in the backyard and hunting, in his earlier years. He enjoyed travelling, often returning to Italy to visit his mother and sister. He frequented the Canada Games Complex, and the OLG Casino on Wednesday afternoons. Pietro is survived by Maria, his loving wife of 50 years (less six days). Pietro will be dearly missed by his two daughters Carmelina (Michael) Del Nin and Lisa (David) Maltese, and grandchildren Matthew, Olivia and Gabriel. He is survived by his sisters Maria Liparota, Nina (Sam) Ruberto, and Victoria (Francesco Cristaudo) Muraca in Italy, brothers-in-law Dino (Mary) D'Angelo, Pasquale (Lucia) D'Angelo, and Giulio (Lucia) D'Angelo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Pietro was predeceased by his parents Giovanni Muraca and Carmelina Bernardi, brother-in-law Vincenzo Liparota, parents-in-law Antonio and Grazia D'Angelo, and other family members. Funeral services for the late Pietro Muraca will be held on Thursday, October 25th, 2012 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road for Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Vigil Prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.
