Preston Walthour Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2025.
Preston Walthour, affectionately known as "Bubba" by family members and close friends, was born April 08, 1945 in Savannah, Georgia to Preston and Essie Mae Walthour who preceded him in death. He was educated in the public school of Chatham County and acquired a strong work ethic early in his life from his father who was a professional contractor with many other skills.

He embraced Catholicism as a child at St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church and remained a member until his passing.

Preston began his career in the workforce at the age of 18 and was employed by the City of Savannah for 52 years. He possibly has the distinction of holding the city's record for employment longevity. Beginning as a mechanic in the city's vehicle maintenance department, he was subsequently promoted to supervisory positions in both the sanitation and property maintenance departments.

To know Bubba can be considered as one of life's unique experiences. Associating with him created an indelible aura because it exuded a presence of both joviality and gregariousness. Whether through a quick-witted joke or a simple gesture, he brought joy wherever he went. He treated everyone with the same genuine kindness, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty.

Bubba's cherished memories are survived by his daughters Major Andrea Michelle Walthour, USAF, Retired and Angela Latrell Watkins; his son Preston Walthour; sisters Inez and Sherri Walthour; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A host of cousins, other family members, and friends.

May his memory bring comfort to all who were touched by his presence. A Wake will be held on August 8, 2025, from 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Campbell & Son Funeral Home 2520 Bonaventure Rd. Funeral Service will be held on August 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St Benedict Moore Catholic Church 441 E Broad Street.
