Priscilla Pointer, an actress best known for her time on "Dallas," as well as for often playing alongside her daughter, Amy Irving, died April 28, 2025, at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut, at the age of 100.
Pointer began her career in entertainment as a stage performer in the 1940s, when she was in a number of Broadway productions. After setting aside acting for many years, she returned in the 1970s and became a fixture on both the big and small screens. She was best known for her 44-episode tenure on the primetime drama "Dallas," where she played Rebecca Barnes Wentworth, and perhaps more notably, for playing opposite her daughter, Amy Irving, in at least seven films. One of the best known is "Carrie," where mother and daughter played mother and daughter, with Pointer portraying Mrs. Snell. She did the same in "Nightmare on Elm Street 3," among others. Irving eventually married director Steven Spielberg, for a time making Pointer Spielberg's mother-in-law. Other notable roles include appearances in "Knots Landing," "The A-Team," "Too Close For Comfort," "Blue Velvet," "L.A. Law," and many others.
Family and fans alike paid tribute to her on social media. One of her grandchildren, Gabriel Barreto, wrote on the social media platform X, "She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a true gift to the craft of acting. She will be missed by so many."

We're very sorry to see Priscilla has passed away. Katie, if you see this, my mother, Foumiko Greenfeld, would like to hear from you. Our homes burned down in the Palisades Fires so she has lost your phone number but her number is the same. We send our fondest condolences and good wishes. So many tragedies this year. -- Karl Greenfeld
