Auntie Pushpa,
I am so sorry I wasn't there to say goodbye or to be there to offer your kids and husband a shoulder to cry on. I am still so shocked that this has even happened. While I've been abroad, I've spent lots of time thinking of coming home on December 22 to your usual Christmas feast and I've told almost all my friends about how amazing Thanksgiving is at your house. Not having any blood relatives of our own in America, these are the memories of the holidays I've always carried with me. I will miss your smile and your good humor, and most of all the love you showed everyone through your cooking and hosting. I know that you are in a better place and spending time with Uncle Jace--something I know you will be happy about. My thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Siva, Trish, Nick and Reagan.

We initially met in mid-air, closer to heaven, a resting place that God now certainly owes you. That was on our vacation en route to OZ. We would like to thank you and Siva for your warm hospitality shown to us during our long stay in Garland (1986). You were the sister we never had. Whenever we returned to your home (base camp) after visiting each city, we were treated to delicious home food which you so graciously prepared. You were our Mom abroad. It was wonderful meeting you and praying together with you during the fasting period in Dallas. You maintained your culture and spirituality abroad which we admire and respect. We appreciate all the time spent with you whenever you visited Durban. We shall always cherish your memory with fondness. God be with Siva and the children in this difficult time.

God works in mysterious ways. He brings people together for the strangest of reasons. Our friendship began 30 years ago when we met at a party.
We lost touch with each other as my life took me in a different path but in recent years we chatted again and it seemed like old times sitting in our kitchens eating dried fish chutney and sharing some private thoughts. We shared happy milestones and memories in our lives together, dinners to holidays to even a birth of a child.
When my mom passed on last year, I got a call from her at 12.30 in the night offering to help me find a flight back home. That was friendship and that was Pushpa!
There are only a handful of people who come into your world, and touch your life in a dramatic fashion. Some of the people are just flickers of light during a long life, while others are consistent glows for years. For many of her friends, she was a consistent glow.
May you rest in peace Pushpa and May God give Siva and the kids the strength through this difficult time in their lives. Love Always, Sandy
