Qian Wu Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2016.
Qian Wu ?? (Wenle ??) , 81, died September 19, 2016, at his home in Cypress, a suburb of Houston, TX, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Wu was born on January 4, 1935, in Qintian, China, to a family of eight siblings. In 1955, he married Jinju Chen, and together they raised 2 daughters and a son. Upon his retirement from a local public utilities company in China in 1996, he and his wife immigrated to the US to be closer to their three children, and help raise their grandchildren. Mr. Wu moved to Cypress in 2012 and had previously lived in Austin, TX, and Los Angeles, CA.

Mr. Wu was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He always put the needs of the family and his children ahead of his own and had made countless sacrifices for their well being. Despite his own limited schooling and the anti-education climate during the Cultural Revolution, he still had an unwavering belief in education for his children, laying a solid foundation for them to seize the opportunity of going to college when the entrance exam was reinstated in the late 1970s.

He was also an avid gardener and an excellent cook. Mr. Wu practiced tai chi for many years, enjoyed listening to Peking opera, and was a fanatic believer of traditional Chinese medicine, for which he took correspondence courses at University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai and received a degree in the 1980s, and used his knowledge to help his family and friends.

Mr. Wu is survived by his wife of sixty years, Jinju; two sisters, Wenzhu and Wenling; three children, Xuli, Zhenyu, and Wei; their respective spouses, Frank, Michelle, and Steve; four grandchildren, Sarah, Kevin, Alan, and Elena; a grandson-in-law Aaron; a great-granddaughter Elise; and nineteen nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, and funeral services will be held starting 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Brookside Funeral Home–Cypress Creek, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.

Dear Xuli,

We were so sorry to hear that your father had passed away. Please accept our sincere condolences and deep sympathy.

Our family is blessed to have known you and your family, including your parents, for many years. We appreciated and remember gatherings at your place On the Mountain, where your parents stayed happily, and enjoyed your father's wonderful cooking. We will also remember your parents exercising along Spicewood Springs Road in Austin and the times when we saw them in Cypress.

Like a family we really share your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your mother, Longguang, Sarah, Kevin, and your big family.
