My deepest sympathies go to Dr. Pirkle's family. He was my doc more than 50 years ago. He is a great man and doctor and will be missed by a generation who he "grew" from sprouts. He loved every part of life, embracing every moment. He is loving right now up in heaven, whistling, working in the garden, still doing God's work. Sharon (Kidwell) Walker

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Pirkle's family-I'm writing to celebrate his life-he was a great man-when I was sick, my first thought was to go to Dr. Pirkle-he always had a solution and even gave me a sheet of paper with no-nonsense advice on getting better. I cherish my sheet of paper on how to help with a cold. His main advice was to drink plenty of water to flush out any infection. When all else failed, I could always go to Dr. Pirkle and I'd be better.-Always-Your Dad, brother, grandpa, and great-grandpa was a very great man and helped a whole lot of people in the Brookhaven and Atlanta area. I always loved to see the framed note on the fireplace mantel from the kid who said "Dear Dr. Pirkle-Don't ever come to my house again" He must have gotten a shot. He always had an upbeat attitude and I will remember him with his starched white shirt and suspenders. Also, I loved his nurse's no-nonsense approach as well (forgot her name-memory bad)-she was quite a character. If I needed a pencillan shot, she'd catch me in the hall when I was least expecting it or if they needed urine sample, she'd hand me a canning jar (clean of course). They just don't make dr's like him anymore. He will be greatly missed. He's in Heaven now rejoicing and probably looking after everyone else or just letting others take care of him-right?

Dr. Pirkle's amazing legacy is in his family: his wife, children and grandchildren. After knowing his daughter Cathy and son-in-law Bill for over 20 years, the stories of their father through all of those years were always inspirational. He leaves lessons of hard work, honesty, commitment and love. He had a wonderful life, but he will be missed.

What an amazing man and wonderful physician. I remember his coming to our house after office hours. I also remember the shots! Painful, but they made me feel better. Brookhaven was lucky to have him.

DR. PIRKLE WAS A GREAT MAN AND DOCTOR THE LIKES OF WHICH AREN'T SEEN MUCH THESE DAYS. HE SERVED THE BROOKHAVEN AND CROSS KEYS HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY WITH LOVE AND DEVOTION FOR DECADES. HE WAS ALSO MY FAMILIES DOCTOR FOR YEARS, I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF A MAN WHO WAS MORE LIKE FAMILY TO THE PEOPLE HE SERVED, THAN JUST FAMILY PHYSICIAN. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES AND MAY GOD REST HIS SOUL.

Dr.Pirkle was our family physician when I was growing up. I have so many fond memories of him, including the aforementioned "Pirkleism". I think my early memories of him may have been what inspired me to make nursing my career choice. Thanks, Doc, for everything you did for me & my family. The entire family is in my prayers.

Pirkle Family

In 1954, at age seven, I contracted polio. Dr. Pirkle was my doctor and I disctinctly remember him coming to our house, making a tentative diagnosis and making arrangements for me to go to Grady Hospital.Upon my recovery, he remained my doctor until my family moved to California. I have many fond memories of him and his office. I distictly remember his kind demeanor and great bedside manor. He made many trips to our home, as well. It does seem that each visit necessitated a shot, however! Later, I was fortunate to go to medical school and to practice internal medicine for many years. I think Dr. Pirkle had a significant influence on me choosing this profession. I tried to model myself after him. I have a Norman Rockwell print in my office titled The Family Physician and each time I look at it I am immediately reminded of him. I am truly sorry for your loss. (My father also told me that Dr. Pirle's wife and my mother were classmates at Weslyan College.)

Sincerely,

Alexander "Chip" Lorch

Dr. Pirkle was a Brookhaven legend. He was an awesome man! "Pray for the Braves, and don't take any wooden nickles!" And the best advice ever, "Drinky the water 'till you peepee the water" My condolences on the loss of this great man. He was also my uncle Bay's hunting buddy.

Dr. Pirkle was one of a kind. The world was truly blessed by his presence. We will always remember his wit & wisdom. But mostly the Pirklelisms,"Drink a water, till you ___ a water" He has been apart of my life as long as I can remember. And will truly be missed.
