Dear Beloved Family of Quentin Williams,
We were devastated to hear of Quentin´s tragic death.
Quentin made a powerful impact when he joined us at Harvard last July for "Senior Executives in State & Local Government." He won a competitive fellowship, the Cahn Public Service Fellowship, to be here, demonstrating his commitment to your community and his bright future in public service.
His classmates and faculty alike remember him as a stand-out in the class - warm but sharp, riotously funny and brilliant. He was a leader among leaders.
Our hearts are with you at this difficult time.

Q and I met and became friends through the Young Elected Officials Network. We met regular at convenings & other events as we shared a passion for making real, progressive social change. We all walked through the fire to come through politics at our age, in our era. We had so much respect for each other's work, accomplishments, and the ability to find joy through difficult times.
I am Polish-American and speak Polish. I will never forget the first time I met Q and we started chatting about our backgrounds. He told me, "Czesc!" which means "Hello!" I was in awe. He spoke a few more words and told me he grew up around Polish-Americans and learned to speak some Polish. Every time I saw him thereafter he'd great me with "Czesc!" and a big hug and smile. He endeared him to me forever. I even told my family in Poland about him to illustrate the depth and beauty of the United States.
Quentin lit up every room.
It had been quite some time since we talked, and in August I received a kind reconnection email from him. We were supposed to catch up this Fall but life got busy, and complicated. I wish I could have spoken to him and absorbed his infectiously positive energy. I have been in mourning since the news. I am sending all the love and comfort I can to his family, friends, and colleagues through this extraordinarily difficult time.

I am fortunate to have shared several legislative experiences with Q, and it always brought me such joy to find out he would be attending the same conference or fellowship that I was. His passion and enthusiasm in all that he did is an example to all of us. I am honored to have known him. I hold his family and friends close at heart during this very difficult time.

Q was such a joy, we made an instant friendship upon meeting each other in a van ride from the airport in Lexington Kentucky on our way to participating in the Council of State Governments Toll Fellowship program. By the time we arrived at our hotel I learned of how much Q loved Queen and Carissa, how we both enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and a shared interest with employment policy. Getting to know Q more during Toll, corresponding with him after Toll and being with him at the year end conference had me looking forward to many years of collaborations to benefit work opportunities for people with disabilities. His positive attitude and bright smile influence my efforts and his spirit inspires me to build consensus.
May your fond memories provide comfort during this difficult time. Please accept my deepest sympathies and condolences. May Q rest in peace.

When Q was in his first term as a legislator he served as my Vice Chair in the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee. As my right hand he performed his duties with professionalism and enthusiasm. He had a great sense of humor and was always prepared. He had a desire to learn everything that could help him be a true public servant. Q you left us much too soon.

Q, your light and laughter will be missed. I´ll always appreciate your advice & contacts for getting my baby, Charlie acclimated to Pittsburgh. I´ll always admire your passion & commitment to affordable housing, education, & a more peaceful community.
I can't understand. But for now, I will accept the fact that you´re now an angel watching over us. God needed you more. Sleep in Peace Q.

I met Rep. Williams in October at a meeting of New England legislators. His energy, positivity and solutions to problems our states face was inspiring. Those of us in the Maine legislature who met "Q" are saddened by his passing and our thoughts are with all of you. - Rep. Vicki Doudera, Maine Legislature
