R.C. Durr Obituary

DURR, R.C., 88, road-contractor, horseman and developer known for his down-to-earth kindness and philanthropy, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY. He participated in numerous activities through the years including: Board Member at Northern Kentucky University, former member of the Kentucky Racing Commission, past President of the KY Road Builders Association, past President of the KY Highway Division of the Associated General Contractors of America, helped found Boone State Bank, prior member of Covington Trust and Banking Co.'s Board of Directors, helped found Bank of KY (Board Chairman Emeritus), member of Bradford Masonic Lodge 123, member of Scottish Rite, member of Shiners and more. Mr. Durr was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Ballinger Durr in 1992. He is survived by his wife, since 1998, Deborah Jo Jones Durr; brother, William E. Durr; Step-son, Micah Schoettle; Step-daughter, Trinity Schafstall; two step-grandchildren; nephew, Roy E. Durr; three great-nieces; two great-great-nieces; two great-great-nephews, one great-great-great Nephew. Visitation for Mr. Durr will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home at 8461 Dixie Hwy., Florence, KY 41042 and from 9-11 a.m., Saturday,at Hickory Grove Baptist Church at 11969 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051. Entombment will be at Independence Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to R.C. Durr Y.M.C.A. at 5874 Veterans Way Burlington, KY 41005, Richwood Presbyterian Church, 1070 Richwood Rd., Richwood, KY 41094, or Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051.
