R. Gary Evans

Jacksonville - On December 1st, 2025, R. Gary Evans unexpectedly went to be with our Lord and Savior. Born in Macon, GA on February 22, 1952, Gary was the son of Beverly D. Evans IV and Mary Rountree. He attended the University of Georgia and Mercer University but was always a true Bulldog fan. A loving father, grandfather (Popa), husband, brother, and father-in-law, he was a true gentleman and a man of faith. He was a devout member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and participated in Bible study groups. Actively involved in Kairos Prison Ministry, Gary encouraged the prisoners to turn to the Lord and taught them about Jesus. In his spare time, he enjoyed puzzles, geocaching, beekeeping, relaxing at his vacation home in Bartow, GA, and having Nerf wars with his grandchildren. He always knew how to make each one feel special.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Mary Burke Snyder Evans; sons, John Evans (Courtney) and Burke Evans (Amie); brothers, John Benton Evans (Kate) and B. Daniel Evans. Grandchildren oldest to youngest: Claire Evans, Jack Evans, Maddox Evans, Paige Evans, and Georgia Evans. He is also survived by his brother-in-laws, Maxwell Snyder (Donette) and Paul Snyder, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. A celebration of life will be held with information to follow.
