Rachel Macon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2024.

Rachel Louise Macon (Fortune), aged ninety-six, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Douglasville, GA. Born on June 18, 1928, in Conway, AR, she was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life.

On April 18, 1944, Rachel married Percie R Macon in Conway Arkansas. They later moved to South Bend IN where they worked until retirement. Mr. Macon preceded her in death in 1998.

Rachel was cherished for her peaceful demeanor and unwavering positive spirit. Known as a "praying woman," she was deeply committed to her faith, participating actively in the Elizabeth Memorial COGIC and the Christian Center of South Bend, IN. Her home was a haven of warmth, often filled with the aroma of her excellent cooking -- a talent so profound she was once offered a local television show, which she humbly declined to keep her culinary creations within the circle of family and friends.

In addition to cooking, Rachel enjoyed fishing trips with her husband and children, working the phone prayer line at her church, and cherished moments spent with her family.

The last of six siblings, Rachel had two brothers…Isaac and Benjamin, three sisters -- Emma, Clarice, and Barbara-all of whom preceded her in death.

Rachel leaves to cherish her memories her children, Marlee Taylor, Alvin Macon, Dwight (Karen) Macon, and Annette Woods of Atlanta, Georgia. Marcus (Sandy) Macon, of North Carolina, Calvin (Sharon) Macon of South Bend, Yuvette (Richard) Taylor, Elkhart Indiana,
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends

Her life will be celebrated on July 16 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, located at 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. The visitation and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a repass at 3:30 pm at Charles Martin Center, LWW, South Bend, Indiana, South Bend, IN 46619. Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens is overseeing the arrangements. Rachel's legacy of love, faith, and culinary mastery will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.

We are so blessed to have met mother Macon and the Macon family.
It has been a pleasure being the leadership of Apostle Calvin & Pastor Sharon.
Mother Macon left a wonderful family to keep her legacy alive.

May God continue to bless all of you in Jesus name
