Rachel Phillips Obituary
Rachel loved serving others and expected nothing in return. She was a wonderful cook and prepared many meals for her church, friends, and neighbors. She loved children and volunteered in the Morrow United Methodist Church nursery for over 25 years where she has been a faithful lifelong member. Among her favorite things were; her garden, flowers, cutting grass, and the RV club. She was a member of the Forest Park Senior High School graduating class of 1954. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband of over 57 years, Larry Joe Phillips; children, Ronnie Phillips and wife Melanie of Savannah, Georgia, Darlene Alls of Fayetteville, and Randy Phillips and wife Marie of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Randall Phillips and wife Tiffany of Savannah, Georgia, Alicia Corbin and husband Jon of Acworth, Lacey Phillips of Richardson, Texas, Ryan Phillips of Helen, Georgia, and Second Lieutenant Kyle Phillips of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Hannah Leigh Phillips and Andrew Hayes Phillips of Savannah.
Also surviving are a sister, Tootsie Callaway of Union City; brother, Charles Sargent and wife Karen of Forest Park; sister-in-law, Marlene Sargent of Jonesboro; brothers-in-law, Lamar Phillips and wife Phyllis of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Leonard Phillips and wife Donna of Plainview, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by her brother, James Sargent.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11:00am at the Morrow United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Baby Nursery at Morrow United Methodist Church, 5985 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, Georgia 30260.

Ina and I are traveling in our RV and have received this sad news from a mutual RV club friend. We viewed Rachel and Larry as dear friends and wonderful people. Our hearts ache with the sorrow of her loss and our prayers are for the comfort of those loved ones who remain. We love you, Larry.

Cousin Rachel like her mama was one of the sweetest women I have ever known. As a kid, I loved it when daddy would take us over to the house to visit and Larry would have the small baby watermelons in the garden.

Rachel will be remembered as a special part of our extended family. We treasure the gatherings in Savannah over the years, where we always enjoyed the fellowship with Larry and Rachel as much as the food. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. What we are feeling right now is impossible to put into words, We love this family so much. Joel and Stephanie feel like Rachel was the best "Mother" they ever had. The grandkids all feel so close to you. Your love has made this happen and Carol feels a tremendous loss of her very best friend.
Heaven is a much richer place with her being there.
