I knew Raili while growing up in Boulder and attending Fairview High School. We spent many hours training together in gymnastics. Although we lost touch, as often happens, I was very sad to hear of her loss (many years after the fact). Her obituary couldn't be more accurate. Love and peace to her family.

Dear Raili, you are still so missed. The Meadows family will always wish you were here in person. But, we know that you are with us in spirit. When we sing the Meadows swim team chant, your voice is felt in our hearts. This Thanksgiving, we are grateful that the universe shared you with us for at least a short while. Many blessings to the Mood and Filion families.

Raili was in my preschool class at Mountain View Preschool when she was 4 years old. The lovely description of her in the above article described her even at a very young age. A friend to all with that gorgeous smile warming up her surroundings. She will be greatly missed.

As the young kid on the block, Raili was an inspiration to me. I always looked up to her and her family. One of my favorite memories of her was when I was biking up to the 401 trail in Crested Butte, a woman started to pass me on the dirt road and as she turned to the side, she said in an incredulous voice, "is that Emily Poulos?!" She helped me pick up my pace. Lively and loving are two words that come to mind when I think of her. She will truly be missed by so many people. We are lucky to have had her in our lives. I am thinking of her entire family during this time.
Sending lots of love,

In the few years that we have known Raili, she became a friend that we looked forward to seeing over summer break. Biking, running, swimming or on the range she always brought her infectious smile and energy. She made everyone look forward to the next adventure or fun activity. We will miss her friendship and generous spirit.
Scott, Tanner, Luc and Summers we offer our deepest sympathies and hope your happy memories with her comfort you in this difficult time.

I first knew Raili as a dedicated volunteer at our children's elementary school. She was a wonderful positive force in that community.
My strongest memories of Raili, however, come from swimming with her at the Louisville Recreation Center. She was always very happy in the water, and eager to share her lane. This was intimidating because of her speed! It was also wonderful, because there was always plenty of time to recover during long chats at the wall. I'm very sad to hear of her passing. What a beautiful soul.
Warm condolences to Scott, Tanner, Luc, Summers, her extended family and many friends.

I was so saddened to recently find about Raili's passing and am heartbroken for her family and friends. She touched many peoples lives with her positive attitude and infectious smile. I loved when she would come in to the swim shop and catch me up on the family and what the kids were up to. She beamed with pride letting me know their accomplishments and how well they were all doing in the swim world! She was always so happy, which rubbed off on those around her.
I will miss she and Scott stopping by to visit with us at Summer league prelims and Finals.
I wish for peace and comfort for her whole family. I'm hoping the New Year can be filled with special moments and many great memories of Raili. She was a special, kind soul that will be dearly missed.

Mainly knew her through my sister Missy. They were 2 peas in a pod. I wasn’t around much at that point because I’m 16 years older than Missy but they definitely had something special. My prayers are with your family. So sorry.

Dear Scott, Tanner, Luc, and Summers – and all her family, our deepest, sincere condolences.
I feel blessed to have known Raili. Raili was a woman so full of bright light and generosity. Generosity of spirit – she was welcoming, inclusive, warm, caring and compassionate. Her bright smile and giving ways touched us, as she did so many others. About 10 years ago or so when we first joined the Meadows and Rachel just began on their swim team, Raili approached me with her huge smile and warm personality, and we immediately got into a long conversation. I knew then that we’d be friends for a long time. I wish I had spent more time with her and told her what an inspiration she was. Raili was an inspiration in many deep and meaningful ways. Always fitness and health-oriented, active, supportive and in-demand she helped the kiddos at our BVSD schools even when she did not know she had helped because the positive consequences of her support resonated through many of the schools and related parent organizations. She helped all the kiddos at Meadows and was a friend to so many! And she was SO fun! I always knew Raili's dedication to her family came first - and was so strong!! I will try to celebrate her life by continuing to spread goodwill. Raili is and will always be deeply missed!
All our love and support,

Kind everlasting presence. From the beginning remembering Raili way back when she was a tiny "eight and under" she was "the" Meadow's twinkling little star child that was always volunteering her joy and spirit with the entire Meadows swim team. Treasured soul, i am saddened, my deepest sympathies go out to you Dale, the Mood & Filion family for your loss.

I met Raili while we were doing our teaching credential program at CU. From the moment we met, I knew she would always be a friend. Her warm smile, her incredible energy and her authenticity drew in all those around her. We spent many a days laughing our way through some boring classes. We continued our friendship in the early years of marriage until we both got busy with children. We would see each other randomly over the years and it was always such a joy for me as she would take the time to visit and catch up. Raili had such a beautiful inner joy that I truly cherished. My heart just aches for her family. Scott, Tanner, Luc and Summers, your mom was a precious gift from God and she was loved by so many. May God surround you all during this difficult time. Love to you all.

I met Raili once years ago in a running group. Only saw her a few times after that but remember you as a very friendly engaging woman who was always ahead of me. Speedy you were. Then you left our group as you were having a child. A few years later as I'm running on Davidson Mesa you pass me. Not surprisingly to me even though you were pushing a loaded double stroller. I yell at you to slow down since you were embarrassing me. We have a short chat. You ask my name and we say goodbye. I am thankful I can say I knew you. I know you lived a full life in a short period of time and I and I know you are being deeply missed by many.

Words can't convey how sorry we are for the Filion, Mood, and Fano families. Raili was a beautiful soul. She made us feel welcome from our first day at the Meadows, and she cheered on our kids just as heartily as she cheered on her own. It took me two seconds to locate a picture of Raili volunteering at a swim meet - that's how much of a fixture she was on deck! It was clear how much she cherished being a mother, and how proud she was of her three amazing kids. I won't ever visit the Meadows pool again without thinking of her and wishing she was there. She was the kind of person you were always happy to have seen, who always brought a smile to your face and made your day a bit brighter. We are holding her family in our hearts, and sending prayers for comfort, peace, and solace in the face of this unimaginable loss.

I will never forget the day when Summers dove into the shallow end at the Meadows head first and hit the bottom. That was one of the only times during my 5 years of lifeguarding where I had to jump into action and use my training, however, Raili had already sprung up and turned on super mom mode. She made my training look useless as she cared for Summers. I don't know the Filion's well, just acquaintance's, but Raili was a light. She always brightened my day when I saw her at the club. Always asking about me and how I was doing. I am sending my thoughts and strength to the Filion's as I cannot imagine the pain of your loss. She's looking down on you with that beaming smile she was constantly wearing.

We had the pleasure of coaching the Meadows swim team in 2018 and we were introduced to Raili, her husband, her children, and her extended family. The Meadows is a unique place held together by an unbreakable community led by amazing people like Raili. She was supportive, generous, and always available to help where it was needed. Raili’s spirit will live on through the connections she made as friend, a relative, and a support system. She will be missed by the both of us! Rest In Peace.

The brightest and biggest lights leave the most noticeable holes of darkness. Raili, without question, was one of those rare brilliant lights. Even for those of us who only got to experience her peripherally as co-volunteers at events, you knew you were in the presence of genuine love and caring. To the Filion family, may God’s peace and overwhelming comfort envelope you during this devastating time. May you stay firmly in the warmth of God’s loving palm. My heart is truly with you. Raili will always be a shining star for all of us, but most definitely for her beloved family. My prayers for you will be endless.

I never knew Raili had been a cheerleader, but it shouldn't surprise me. I'm not sure I've met a more upbeat person. She was quick to laugh and had a radiant smile- she always looked like she was having fun. Raili seemed to know everyone and have time for everyone, young and old. She was a light in our community: our town, our schools, our rec center, the local swimming scene. What a devastating loss for us all.

It is so unbelievable that such a bright light has gone out. Raili was 13 when I was born, and I sure looked up to her as my cool, older cousin! My own daughters (pictured here in 2017 at ages 7 and 1/2 and 6 at Raili’s house) felt the same way about her...and her amazing children. I’m so glad my girls got to know her, but I’m heartbroken that neither they nor I will have any more time with her - thank goodness for countless memories and hundreds of photographs from happy family time. We are all better for having had Raili in our lives.

I met Raili through Mohi boys swimming and through marching band. Her son was a few years younger than my son, and they became friends. We worked together at band competitions and when Tanner started swimming, we often sat near each other to cheer on the kids. She was sitting next to me at the district swim meet helping me cheer my senior as he set two personal records, and she was cheering as loudly as me. And then we both urged on Tanner in his race. That's who she was—a loving mom and cheerleader and one of the friendliest people I have ever had the great privilege of meeting. My prayers are with Scott and the whole family. God grant you peace and grace at this difficult time.

When my family first moved to Boulder in 1983, I transferred to the competitive gymnastic team in Boulder. This meant joining a team that I had been competing against previously. Raili was one of the gymnasts that made me feel immediately welcome. As we grew up, I was honored to be on other teams and groups that Riali was part of as well. Although she was a fierce competitor, she was always the epitome of a good sport and team member. She was excited for everyone's successes and empathic with their struggles. She was more than a teammate, she was a true friend. I cannot help but feel the world has lost a bright star. I hope with all my heart she is in a loving embrace with her mother right now. Dear Raili I will miss you greatly.

Dear Scott, Tanner, Luc, and Summers and extended family,
Oh my, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Raili was always a ray of light, and she guided our family through the swimming world from the very beginning of our time with the Meadows. She was always generous, helpful, fun, and giving of her time and energy. She shared her snacks, shared her advice about summer swim camp, shared her buzz clippers for haircuts, and shared Tanner and Luc with our boys for relays during the swim seasons. She had a great impact on our family and many other swim families. We will miss her. I can't begin to express how profoundly sorry I am. Please know that we are thinking of all of you in these difficult times.

Raili was such a positive force with a can-do spirt and that laugh and amazing smile; the Meadows will not be the same without her. I remember that she consistently gave her time to the Meadows Swim Team, whether it was stroke judging, serving up food at the potluck, or timing at the League Finals pool. One summer she arranged an order for Miss Magoo spirit skirts , and for years later we'd laugh and wear our Meadows Green patterned skirts to the home meets - Raili made that happen for us. On more that one occasion, Raili and Scott spontaneously helped me by giving my kids a ride back to the Meadows from Water World, or Hotshot or Pentathlon. Her work ethic was inspiring, both for adults and the young athletes who could see such a dedicated competitor getting her laps in at the very pool where they were competing. As inspiring as she was, she was also generous with her time, and so kind and enthusiastic in her nature. She consistently had encouraging words for kids on the swim team. Often, my own kids would come home to tell me "Tanner's mom said..." or "Summer's mom said..." or "Luc's mom said..." , to check in with them, or to notice that they dropped time or finished well in a race. They all really liked her so much and enjoyed any time they spent with her. And so did I. Raili was such a special person, and our entire family is so much better for having known her. Our hearts go out to the extended Mood family for this tragic loss. Rest in Peace, Raili. We will always remember your bright, shining light.
