I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Mr. Ralph G. Martin. I lived just around the corner from the Martins all my life until leaving Cheraw for college, and remember what good neighbors they were during my youth. I played with his children in the neighborhood, as well as attended Cheraw schools with them. Mr. Martin always greeted people with a big grin, was very pleasant, easy going, and a very successful business man. He always supported the Cheraw schools----------I doubt that any of us could look back in our school annuals and not find Martin Motors as a sponsor. Cheraw will sorely miss Mr. Martin because he wa such a fine southern gentleman and outstanding citizen. He definitely had a very positive influence on my life.

I would like Mrs. Martin, Mary, "Marty", and george to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them at this sad time.

You have my deepest sympathy in the death of Mr. Martin. My family lived in Cheraw during the 40's. My father, Marvin Lowder, operated the feed mill that was on highways US 1 & 52 near the railroad tracks. Mary and I started in the same class at Cheraw Elementary School and continued in the same class till my family moved to Albemarle, NC. I believe that we graduated from Mrs. Funderburk's Little Red School House at the same time. I have many pleasant memories of Mr. Martin and the family.

With deepest sympathy,

Gareth M. Lowder
