Funeral service for Ralph "Scott" Newby, 45, Stratford Square, Port Orange, who died Friday, March 10, 2006, at his home, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, in the chapel of Lohman Daytona Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home. Scott was born in Miami and came to this area as a child in 1971. He was a 1978 graduate of Spruce Creek High School and was employed for the past 25 years as a transport driver for T.G. Lee Foods. He departed this world surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with melanoma cancer. He loved spending time with his family, boating, fishing, golfing and going on cruises. He was a Miami Dolphins fan, involved in Boy Scouts and coached youth sports for many years. Scott was predeceased by his father, Ralph J. Newby; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Quartier, and his stepbrother, Donald P. Quartier Jr. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 27 years, Deanna; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Will Laye, Port Orange; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Dariane Newby; and son, Andrew Newby, Port Orange; grandson, Austin Cieslak; mother and stepfather, Virginia and Donald Quartier, South Daytona; stepmother, Earline Newby, Port St. Lucie; brother, Steve Newby, South Daytona; sister, Judy Bailey, Davie, Fla.; three stepbrothers and their wives, Dave and Linda Quartier, Doug and Tammy Quartier and Danny and Cheryl Quartier; stepsister, Deborah Jenkins; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests donations in Scott's memory to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Funeral arrangements are under the caring direction of Lohman Daytona Funeral Home.

I don't even know where to begin, I am so glad that in the short time Scott was here in Bethesda that I had the chance to work with him. He was a joy to get to know and I will miss seeing him. You all will remain in my prayers.
