My mother, Retta Pace Sheppard, was a longtime employee of Gravely as a secretary. She was Mr. Pyles secretary for many years. I remember him well from times when I was young and would go to her office. I remember him as a very kind and considerate man. My mother thought the world of Mr. Pyles. He was someone who was very good to work for, and they remained good friends to this day, long after they both retired. Mother has dementia now, and has has lost much of her long and short term memory. But one day when I was visiting with her just prior to this past Christmas, I saw a note on her kitchen table that she had written to herself as a reminder. It said that Mr. Pyles had called her that day and that they had talked. Even though she has forgotten a lot about her past, she still remembers what a good friend he was and how much she enjoyed hearing from him. We will all miss him. This world would be a better place if there were more like him.

Our prayers are with you in your loss.
