Ralph Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2024.

Ralph Lesley Smith (Dr. Ralph), age 70, of Port Angeles, WA and previously of Boise, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He will be laid to rest at the Oceanview cemetery in Port Angeles, overlooking the ocean he loved.

Knowing Dad, the first thought his oldest daughter had was that he simply couldn't handle the results of the election the night before. He would have appreciated that and given a big belly laugh.

Ralph was born on December 9, 1953 in Texas. He spent his childhood in Southern California where fell in love with his LaMirada high school sweetheart, Linda (Segroves), who would become the love of his life and dedicated wife for 51 years.

Ralph spent all of his 70 years living life to the fullest and on his own terms. He was devoted to his family (who he called his legacy), and helping as many people as he could as they navigated life's challenges. He enjoyed all things football and baseball. He always wanted to put a $10 bet on his Seattle teams- immediately sending a check when they lost. He rarely missed watching or listening to a Mariners or Seahawks game with his beloved cat, Kimber, on his lap and a "diet" Dr. Pepper in his hand.

Over his lifetime, he was the founder of multiple companies, all which seemed to need their own cell phones, which his family teased him about. He talked to everyone- everywhere- in his big booming voice, usually ending with a bear hug. He loved sharing his opinions- either through politics or radio or tv broadcasting (high school sports in the late 80's/early 90's and his talk show were his favorites.)

He was most passionate about Ginny Marie Wellness, founded in 2008, and named after his mother. Since 2008, Ginny Marie Wellness served an incredible number of people, helping them often pull themselves out of dark places and easing their struggles. "Dr. Ralph", as so many called him, had compassionate faith in people's goodness and second chances. He made a difference in the lives of thousands across the Pacific Northwest in ways we probably will never fully know.

He is survived by his beloved wife Linda and his 3 children including: Sabrina (Dave) Minshall of Middleton, Idaho; Kevin (Joni) Smith of Adel, Iowa; Hillary (Kade) Hubbard of Nobelsville, Indiana; his 6 grandchildren, Aaron (Brittany) Bowman, Emma (Shon) Vance, Chris Smith, Michael Smith, Emily Smith, and Cora Mae Hubbard; and his great-grandchildren, Lucas, Elaina, and Maisie Bowman; his beloved cousin David Ridlon; and his sister Lori McLain (Travis.) He was a strong believer in the afterlife and was comforted by the peace it would bring. He was preceded in death by his parents (William and Virginia Smith), his mother in law (Catherine Mae Segroves), his brother (Billy Smith), and too many close friends.

Ralph Smith's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering faith in the goodness of people. His life was a testament to the power of compassion and the impact one individual can have on the world. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the below foundation, First Step Family Support, which works to ensure all communities of the North Olympic Peninsula are strong, healthy, and resilient for generations to come.

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Ralph last September in Port Angeles. He warmly welcomed us and showed us around, making it a memorable trip. We shared a special Nebraska connection with Ralph, as he was a dear friend of my late brother, Vijay Macwan, from India.

Ralph and Vijay shared a strong bond, rooted in their mutual interest in the import-export business. They stayed in touch over the years, even as life took them in different directions. Vijay often spoke highly of Ralph, appreciating his kindheartedness and their shared passion for innovative business ideas. They truly enjoyed each other's company, building a friendship that was both meaningful and inspiring.

Ralph was a remarkable person, always extending a helping hand to those who crossed his path. On behalf of Vijay's family, we extend our deepest love and heartfelt condolences to Ralph´s family during this time of profound loss. May his memory live on in the lives of all he touched.

I went to La Mirada High School with Ralph and Linda, and we graduated in 1972. I remember Ralph as a leader as he was a student council officer, president of several clubs on campus, and a varsity baseball player. And he was best known for his great sense of humor and engaging personality. The last time I saw Ralph was during our 50-year high school reunion in 2022. Ralph will be sorely missed, and praying for peace and comfort to Linda and their loved ones.

Ralph was a good friend of mine from the time I moved to Boise in 1996. We remained friends until the end. He was very supportive of me in times of crisis including my divorce in 1998 and during tranquil periods that followed. I hope I gave him the same goodness. He will always have a place in my heart. He was a great friend and I believe a great father to his children. Steve Wilson Indiana, PA

Dr Ralph was my teacher Dr and a well loved friend. He taught me to be free of a painful child hood and alcoholism. I call him a few days ago because I needed to talk to him. He never answered. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing because he has done so much for me and my son Greg. He was my only solace. I also started in cascade a wellness center but it didn´t get off the ground. I´ll truly miss my mentor and my Doc!

Ralph was a fantastic man and father in law. I called Ralph dad as he always treated me as a son. Dad was a man of many stories. During my wedding to his wonderful daughter, Sabrina, dad wanted to speak. It seemed like he spoke for an hour, I don´t recall what he spoke about but it was completely from the heart. Dad I miss you and I know you will always be looking over Sabrina and I. Love always your son (in-law). Dave
