Randall "Randy" Funk

Randall (Randy) Lee Funk, Sr., 71, of McHenry passed away peacefully, Monday, September 24, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born on September 30, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Merwin and Elsie (Kilts) Funk. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1964, enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in Vietnam. He met his wife, Karen (daughter of Don and Betty Justen, Ringwood) while stationed at Glenview Naval Station in Glenview, Illinois. They married on December 6, 1969, at Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake and were inseparable for the next 48 years. Randy worked as a carpenter for more than 30 years and was the Ringwood Building Inspector until his passing. Randy loved to stoke the fire and be the instigator. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by his family and friends. In retirement, Randy loved to fish, spend time with Karen at their lake house, build amazing bird houses, play guitar and banjo, and drive around in his 1954 Ford truck. Holidays were some of Randy's favorite times when family gathered to be together. Randy is survived by his loving wife Karen, his son Randy Jr. and family (Jenni, RJ, Kate), his son Ryan and family (Lauren, Cale, Justin, Jason, Lane), sister Noreen (George) Wiggins of Columbiaville, MI, his mother-in-law Betty Justen of McHenry, and many other family members that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Bonnie Henderson and Cathy Kibby, and his father-in-law Donald Justen. Visitation will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 10 am until the time of Funeral Service at 11am at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry, IL 60050.
