To the Florent Family,

We were so sorry to hear that Randy had departed this life. We often would see him at the French Quarter Festival.

He seems to have touched so many lives in a positive way. Be happy in the fact that he was such a good and genuine person. Treasure the memories!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Randy was my math tutor when I was in high school. He had lots of patience and I was not the smartest student, but he hung in there for me. I will always remember him.

To the Florent Family. Raymond and I are keeping each of you in our prayers.

The world is definitely a better place since we all crossed Randy's path. We have been knowing Randy since before he was a teenager. He has always been a very bright, kind, and quiet young man.

To God Be The Glory.

The Florent family,

I grew up with Randy in "The Park". We were all part of the gang (Charles, Will, Harold, Douglas, "Crab") that would shoot hoops or play touch football every weekend. We lost track of each other after I left N.O. in the early 80's. Even though he was a "Purple Knight" and I was a "Blue Jay", we were best friends.

I am very sorry to hear of his passing. For those who didn't know Randy as a teenager, from reading the sympathy expressions - I see he didn't change at all as an adult. As a "coming of age" black man - he was intellegent, thoughtful, gentle, a tough competitor, and a loyal friend.

My deepest sympathies to his family.

We miss you, Randy. I can hear your unique laugh and see your beautiful smile whenever I want to because your spirit is here. I know we'll all be together again some day. Like Ron, I never got to fly with you and that's a regret I'll have until we meet again.

Many of the first memories of my life have you in it and I'll always think of you when life is great. Tanya and I send you the biggest of hugs! We love you. All our love goes out to Marguerite and the rest of your family.

Randy Flying his airplane

I first became acquainted with Randy as a prospective student. As a flight instructor, I have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of clients from all walks of life. Randy possessed a natural ability to fly, which made him a rare breed. With our love of flying, we became instant friends. Randy enjoyed flying my airplane so much, he got one just like it. I told him imitation is the best form of flattery. I enjoyed the hours we spent together in the cockpit and the numerous flying trips we took together, showing off our airplanes around Louisiana and Mississippi. Hurricane Katrina destroyed both of our airplanes in the same hangar. Kindred spirits are hard to find and very hard to replace.

After Hurricane Katrina, I relocated to Glendale, AZ, which makes me unable to attend the funeral services. I will be there in spirit. I share the grief and sadness with his family. I will always remember him and the fun times we had together.

To the family of Randy Florent - I got to know Randy over the 3 years that I worked with him as the GSA Contracting Officer in building the Castle Kids Childcare Center, and later when my own son was enrolled in Castle Kids. Randy was one of my all time favorite people to work with. He was always the voice of reason and had a great way of getting people to work together. He knew how to get to the root of just about any problem. His warmth and sense of humor made him a pleasure to be around. I know in my heart that Randy is now looking after God's littlest angels, just as he looked after the children at Castle Kids. People like Randy don't come around very often. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him. My deepest sympathies are with you.

Randy was the most wonderful friend to me during my days at the Corps of Engineers and after. I'll never forget the time I sat in the law library at work crying and he comforted me. He was always so encouraging and fun, and even though I haven't talked with him in the past several years, he was one a person could call and just start up where they'd left off like there had never been a gap. I'll miss him so much - he was the most awesome man and it's my privilege and honor to have known such a fine gentleman.

It is impossible to express in words how much of an impact Randy had on the lives of those of us who came to know him during our years at Loyola Law School. Randy was such a good friend to so many; a rock when we needed someone strong to lean on; a guiding light whose common sense helped more than one of us resolve problems; and most of all, a dear and compassionate friend who always had a smile on his face that let you know he was in your corner. He was my New Orleans brother and not a day goes by that I don't think about him and what he meant to all of us.

Randy showed us his airplane when we last visited him and we talked about the day when he would make the trip to see us in Minnesota. He was so proud of that airplane. My biggest regret is that I never got the opportunity to fly with him. I have no doubt he was one heck of a pilot. Hopefully, we will get the chance to fly with him some other time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Marguerite and with Randy's family.

A great friend to me and my sons, Matt and Ryan. We will miss his wonderful sense of humor. Randy was a brilliant man, only his care for others surpassed that brilliance. Our prayers are with Randy's family with special love to Marguerite.

Randy was a true friend, since our first semester at Law School; always asking how I was doing and my daughters. His family and especially Marguerite can only be proud of him, this bright star now at peace forever. Words cannot express this loss. I will miss his thoughtful and good nature. My condolences, prayers and support to all.

Randy's grandmother, Julia Gray, used to be so proud of him. She was so proud of all her grandchildren. I can still hear her telling me about them. Julia still lives on in my heart. And her love for Randy and his family can't help but also live in my heart. My deepest condolences on Randy's death.
