Randy Spivey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 2 to Dec. 10, 2023.
Spokane - Randall (Randy) William Spivey, 57, of Spokane, Washington, passed away suddenly on November 18, 2023, from a heart attack. Randy was born on December 1, 1965, to William and Peggy Spivey in Long Beach, California.

Randy graduated from McKay High School in Salem, Oregon in 1984. He received a Congressional Appointment to the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations. Randy continued his education and received a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Human Resource Development. While attending the Academy, he met Teresa Fortik, and after six months of dating, they were married in Denver, CO in June 1988.

While Randy was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, he served as a Department of Defense (DoD) executive. He managed and provided oversight to all hostage survival training programs in the DoD including direct instruction to the elite military units of Delta Force and Seal Team 6.

After the 9/11 attack on America in 2001, Randy founded the Center for Personal Protection and Safety (CPPS), where he remained the CEO until his death. CPPS is a leader in the field of preventing and responding to violence in the workplace, schools, and Houses of Worship.

Most important to Randy was his love and devotion to God, his family, and his country. Although Randy was a private person, he dedicated his life to supporting the growth and development of many individuals, churches, and organizations. Those who knew Randy, recognized his "unique" sense of humor and ability to make people laugh with his quick wit. He enjoyed playing racquetball and golfing with his children, spending time in Maui with Terri with whom he just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, and wrestling with his five energetic grandchildren. Randy enjoyed walking daily, especially along the Spokane River and in Hawaii. When working in Washington DC, he often walked throughout the National Mall in the early morning hours, praying for America. His untimely passing has left an enormous void in the lives of his family and those who were fortunate enough to know him, and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving family members are his wife Terri, his three children, David Spivey, Joshua Spivey (Ashley, wife), and Katie Newton (Jake, husband), along with his five grandchildren: Ezra, Jude, and Aksel Newton; Alayah and Liliana Spivey. Additional family members include: William and Peggy Spivey, (parents); Kerri Spivey, (sister); Dean Fortik (father-in-law); and Wes Fortik (brother-in-law, Kari, wife). Numerous additional relatives significantly impacted Randy's life as well.

A private family burial was held on November 30, 2023, at Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Spokane, WA. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Spokane for family and friends in early 2024. Additional details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Victory Faith Church (Spokane, WA), or The Salvation Army.

Randy was president of the school his senior year of high school. A strong leader, well respected and enjoyed by all. We all knew he would go on to do many amazing things. He will be missed by many. Many condolences to the family.

As (2nd) cousins, I have wonderful memories of our childhood and our families being together on holidays in Salem, OR. I remember playing board games and "mud bowls" (tag football in the rain).

My husband and I lived in Colorado Springs while Randy was attending the Air Force Academy and got to meet and spend time with Terri as well. Sweet memories! I´m so sad and sorry to hear of this great loss. I always enjoyed and respected Randy. My deepest condolences and prayers for all of Randy´s family!

Love and prayers,

Tiffany (Nash) Woodward
