Randy Thayer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2025.
Randy "Randonius Von Thayer" Thayer, 74, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. Born on July 8, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Randy lived a life marked by creativity, compassion, and a deep commitment to healing through the arts. His life began with a tragic accident at age 3 which resulted in a long hospital stay and years of learning how to walk again. He never considered himself to be limited and ran headlong into life without fear.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from San Diego State University and began his professional journey in the corporate world. However, his heart was always with music. From the age of nine, when he first picked up an accordion, to mastering the double keyboard organ and piano in his teens, music remained the central thread of his life. Eventually leaving the corporate sphere behind, Randy embraced his true calling as a musician.

Over the years, he performed with numerous bands and formed lasting friendships through his music. Alongside his wife of 21 years, Christine Thayer-whom he lovingly called "my angel"-he composed more than 100 original songs. Together they brought their mission of "Music for Healing" to hospitals, nursing homes, and elder care facilities, offering performances that were both heartfelt and transformative.

Randy was also a talented visual artist who designed his own business cards and postcards. He delighted in sharing his artwork freely, always offering his creativity with generosity.

He is survived by his wife Christine Thayer; his cat Cookie; stepdaughter Jen Vanderschans (Bill); granddaughters Rachel Vanderschans and Leah Vanderschans; nieces Ashley Wright (Grant), Allison Swope, Scarlette von Thayer, and Julie von Thayer; great-nephews Bennett Wright and Archer Wright; and brother Timothy Thayer.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mamie Swope and brothers Neal Thayer, Terry Thayer, and Randy Swope.

Randy's legacy lives on through the music he created, the art he shared, and the love he gave so freely. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
