Ransom Merdith Bostic

VANSANT, Va. — Ransom Merdith Bostic, 85 years of age of the Leemaster Section of Vansant, Va. passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at Buchanan General Hospital of an extended illness. Born in Dickenson County, Va., he was the son of the late Alex and Laura Duty Bostic. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life, and was a member of the Looney Chapel Methodist Church. He was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Company #1 and a member of UMWA Local 1509. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather. Mr. Bostic was preceded in death by his first wife, Hassie Boyd Bostic on March 28, 1988. He is survived by his second wife, Joyce Edwards Bostic of Vansant, Va. Mr. Bostic is survived by one daughter, Janice and husband Roger Cuddy, Bristol, Va.; two sons, Randy and wife Deborah Bostic, Vansant, Va., Herman and wife Karen Bostic, Vansant, Va.; four stepchildren, Betty Owens, Grundy, Va., Mitchell Edwards, Grundy, Va., Charlie Edwards, Maxie, Va., Tansy Hatfield, Patterson, Va.; three sisters, Helen Thomas, Vansant, Va., Deladis and husband Earnest O'Quinn, Brookfield, Ohio, Agnes and husband Luke Jones, Brookfield, Ohio; seven brothers, Cuba and wife Dorothy Bostic, Fletchers Ridge, Va., Norman Bostic, Murphy, Va., Russell Bostic, Murphy, Va., Leonard and wife Gladys Bostic, Honaker, Va., Don and wife Velva Bostic, Murphy, Va., Arson and wife Sherry Bostic, Brookfield, Ohio, Raymond and wife Betty Bostic, Murphy, Va.; three grandchildren, Jody and wife Sara Bostic, Vansant, Va., Scotty and wife Autumn Bostic, Grundy, Va., Kristen Bostic, Grundy, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Amelya Bostic and Taylor Bostic of Vansant, Va.; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Mark Edwards. Funeral services for Ransom Merdith Bostic will be conducted Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Lester Boyd and the Rev. Ancil Childress officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Jody Bostic, Scotty Bostic, Keith Boyd, Paul Coleman, Roger Coleman, Lonnie Boyd, and Jerry Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Eric Goss, Jerry Arms, Harold Deel, Frank Sturgill, and the staff of the Mountain View Health Care Center, Elkhorn City, Ky.
