Raul: You've been gone for over a year now. I didn't have a chance to sign your guestbook in 2008, so here it goes. You were always there to give advice on so many topics including Habitat for Humanity...almost had me convinced I could be a construction helper when I retired. As far as I know I still have your woodworking project of the gun-shaped rubber band shooter. I hope to locate it in my move to my new location. I also was grateful for the special lapel pin "Travel No Faster than your Guardian Angel can Fly", a reminder to drive safely in my 60 mile round trip commute to the base. Just wanted to let you know you won't be forgotten. You can rest easy now. Oh yes, I still recall your lunchtime workout at the old building...practicing your golf stroke. Dear Marcella,

I was saddened to hear of Raul's passing. During our five years working together on Habitat for Humanity projects, Raul was a friend and teacher. Not only was he a leader in house construction, he willingly used his experience to operate dirt moving equipment in preparing building sites for more than 22 homes. I personally and Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County are deeply indebted to our friend Raul Castro.

I will be happy to be in his company again when my days on earth are finished.

Marcella, may God bless you and your family.

Chela and family,

We will always have such fond memories of living across the street from you. The first Japanese New Years party at our house with you and Raul, Ed and Clara Lee Bubnar, Joe and Donna Haugen, was the start of a long time set of affairs. Raul was a very special friend and we will always keep him in our hearts. We know that he is helping out others even now because that is who he is and was. God Bless you and your family, whom we have called friends for so many years.

Dear Castro Family,
Raul had been our neighbor for 20 years. We will remember him fondly and with a smile for all those things that made him so special ... his love of family, God and country. His open heart and arms were a special thing indeed. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind. Chela, you are a remarkable and strong woman. We can all learn something from you! May your journey of grief be short and the memories long and lasting. God bless you all ...

I worked with Raul for a number of years. He was such a good listener. He always had a brilliant smile and jolly laugh. I send to you my deepest sympathies. He was a wonderful man and I know he didn't feel well these past few years. Because of his selfless acts he will be in a special place in heaven.

To the Raul Castro family. I was deeply sadden to read about the passing of Raul. I worked with Raul a CBC Port Hueneme a number of years before being transferred to to Point Mugu. I last saw him in the late 90s at the carving club in Ventura. I always enjoyed visiting and talking with Raul. I now live in Lubbock, Texas and the picture of Raul in the paper is the way I remember him. Large smile and big mustache. He was great person. May God be with you all.
