Delfin Raul Fernandez
In Loving Memory
April 17, 1943 – December 4, 2010

D. Raul Fernandez, age 67, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2010, in Conroe, Texas, from a cardiac arrest. He was born at Policlinic Hospital in New York City on April 17, 1943, to Delfin and Josephine Fernandez.

Raul proudly served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Raul received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from Pace University in New York City, and completed Post graduate studies at Harvard Business School.

After graduation, Raul accepted a position as a Financial Analyst with Shell Oil Company in New York and was later transferred to Houston, Texas.

His career provided him the opportunity to work in a number of cities where he met many life-long friends. Raul was a partner with the international firm KPMG and worked in the Consulting Practice in Houston, Stamford and Mexico City. Later in his career he was a Partner at Mir, Fox and Rodriguez and a Senior Associate at Booz-Allen's Aviation Practice in San Francisco.
While at Booz Allen he was offered a job by his client at Wayne County Airport Authority, a major hub airport in Detroit Michigan where he served as Financial Vice President. Raul recently returned to management consulting where he opened his own firm.
Raul was active in a number of charitable organizations and served as Chairman of the International Board of Amigos de la Americas. He was a Board Member for Family Service Center and the Society of Performing Arts.

He loved to travel and experience culture, art and cuisine. His passion for travel started early when he spent summers traveling to Cuba to visit family members and continued throughout his life.

Raul had a heart of gold, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. At his core were strong characteristics of integrity and loyalty. He was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Raquel, his daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Dan, two granddaughters, Lindsey and Anna, his brother, Delfin, and brother-in-law, Luis, many extended family members and loving friends.

Friends are cordially invited to attend the service, Friday, December 10, at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway. A celebration of his life will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial donations be made in Raul's memory to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.

Dear Raquel, Lisa and Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Raul's passing is so sad and very sudden. I am in Orlando this week and just heard the sad news. I worked with Raul at Holland & Davis and also at Booz-Allen in Houston. He was a wonderful person. He dearly loved you, Lisa and his family. He spoke of you each time we talked of family and he was so very proud and delighted as a grandfather. Linda Dillard

Dear Raquel, Lisa, Dan and family, I worked for about 5 years with Raul. He became my mentor and I learned a great deal working with him. He also became a close friend to me and I always enjoyed talking with him about our families. He enjoyed traveling and told me about trips he was planning with Raquel and also enjoyed showing me pictures of his two granddaughters. I am still in shock and already miss him and his emails. My sympathy is with you along with my prayers. I will not be able to be with you on Friday but my thoughts are with you and my heart goes out to all of you. May God keep you and give you strength.
Sincerely and with love and hugs, Susan Wnorowski.
