Rev. Ray L. Sadler

The words that come to mind when I think of Uncle Ray are kind-hearted, gentle, soft-spoken, eloquent. As a child I can recall his visits from Hong Kong as extraspecial family times. I always felt a special closeness to Uncle Ray. I looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed yearly visits with him and my cousins in Saskatchewan during my twenties. I have so many wonderful memories of my Uncle Ray and I am really going to miss him and especially his hugs.

I will always remember how fond Ray was of lemon pie. In 1951, when Ray was working in the office at Findlay's Foundry, his Mom was laid up with sciatica and I had to make Ray a lemon pie every Sunday, even though it was supposed to be a day of rest. A lemon pie baked on Saturday just wouldn't do for Ray.

I remember Uncle Ray as a very quiet spoken, kind and gentle man with a dry wit and a broad smile. However, he also had a stern side. When I was four or five years old, Carol Ann, Bev and myself drove with Uncle Ray and Auntie Ruth to Bancroft for a few days holidays. While I didn't get car sick, I wasn't one for long trips, and I remember asking Uncle Ray every few minutes "how much farther is it" and "when are we going to get there"? Finally, Uncle Ray said in a very stern voice that if I didn't stop asking him that, he was going to stop the car and let me out. While I knew that Uncle Ray would never do that, I knew that he meant business and so was quite for the rest of the trip. I was very fond of Uncle Ray and admired him for his many accomplishments and will miss him very much.

I was so very sorry to hear of Rev. Sadler's passing. I know all too well the pain of losing a family member. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family.

As a cousin to Ray, we wish to extend our sympathy to Jean and his family. Ray was an important family member to all of us. We deeply regret we could not be with him especially during these later years.

We, the staff at CCC Kei San Secondary School (HK), would like to express our condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Rev. Ray Sadler's family on the passing of Ray. We will always remember the sound foundation laid by Rev. Sadler upon the establishment of CCC Kei San Secondary Technical School. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I write this note with such a heavy heart, Ray had given to Sharon and I such a feeling of warmth from his caring heart. He was a special person in Sharon's short life and we in this house will remember him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Jean and your family at this time.
