Raymond Arenas

Raymond Arenas, 76, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2013 at his home with his loving wife of 35 years at his side.

Ray was born in Crystal City, Texas on April 25, 1937, to Miguel and Maria Arenas. He was raised in Holland, Mich. He joined the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war he returned to Holland and opened a tortilla factory and a Mexican restaurant. He moved to St. Augustine in 1972, and has been a resident since then. Ray worked for the City of St. Augustine in the Parks Department for 10 years. He was an excellent chef, an avid gardener, and a lover of life. He loved to fish, shoot pool, and spend time with his many friends and family. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Arenas, his seven children, Lisa Arenas-Leth, Maria Arenas-Brown (David), Michael Arenas, Richard Curran-Kelley (Dawn), Scott Kelley, Steven Kelley (Michelle), and Hind Mamdouh. He is also survived by his brothers, Arturo Arenas of St. Augustine, and Richard Arenas (Cindy) of Holland, Mich.; his sisters, Rachel Guerrero (lgnacio) of Holland and Rosa Maria Arenas of St. Louis. His seven grandchildren include Harley Cepeda, Ryan Curran, Logan Curran, Dylan Curran, Cory Kelley, Hunter Kelley, and Savannah Kelley. His great-granddaughter is Victoria Garcia, and there are many nieces and nephews.

He was a wonderful, sweet and kind man that touched the lives of his family and many friends. They will gather to celebrate his life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, his memory can be honored with a donation to Community Hospice.
