Raymond Beebe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 18, 2022.
Raymond C. Beebe, loving father, dedicated husband, a good and honorable man, passed away peacefully in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was 83. Ray was born in New Orleans on January 17, 1939, and grew up in Gretna, Louisiana, until he joined the United States Navy on his seventeenth birthday. His duty stations included Moffett Federal Airfield in Santa Clara, California, the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida, Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Naval Air Facility Atsugi in Kanagawa, Japan, and the Taiwan Straits during the 1958 Crisis aboard the U.S.S. Lexington, as an aerial reconnaissance photographer. Ray later joined the United States Air Force continuing his service as an aerial reconnaissance photographer through two tours in Vietnam. It was at Atsugi where Ray met his first wife, Sasako Sasaki of Osaka, Japan, who he later married on December 23, 1959, had two children, Kim and Mark, and for whom he provided loving care until Sasako's passing from kidney disease in 1977.
In 1968, after being honorably discharged from military service, Ray attended Louisiana State University at New Orleans (LSUNO) where he received his Baccalaureate ('71) and Masters of Business Administration ('78) degrees in accounting. Having successfully completed the Certified Public Accountant examination, Ray began his career as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service and later transferred to the United States Department of Agriculture's National Finance Center at the New Orleans Michoud Facility. During his career, Ray served as President of the Louisiana Association of Government Accountants--New Orleans Chapter. In 1979, Ray married Mary Terese "Terrie" Doyle Shea, with whom he would share forty-two years in a loving marriage.
In 1997, after proudly dedicating more than thirty-eight years to government service, Ray retired, and Ray and Terrie then settled in Harwich Port, Massachusetts, where they resided for twenty-five years. Ray enjoyed traveling, especially to visit the children and grandchildren in Austin, Texas, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge. He possessed a voracious interest in learning, relished performing household and automotive repairs, studied and pursued cutting edge personal health trends, and delighted in estate sales. He was a collector of many things, including coins, stamps, and an eclectic array of tools and gadgets. Nothing was more important to Ray than his family and "doing the right thing."
Ray is survived by his wife, Terrie Beebe of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; a daughter Kim Beebe Karstens and her husband Robert of Austin, Texas; a son, Mark R. Beebe and his wife Anne, of Metairie, Louisiana; two stepsons, William "Bill" Shea and his wife Rhonda of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Raymond Shea of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren, Haley Karstens, Mark R. Beebe, Jr., Christopher Beebe, Lauren Shea, Erin Shea, Cassidy Shea, and Liam Shea; and a brother, Allen Beebe of Louisiana. Friends and relatives are invited to the Visitation and Funeral Mass on May 31, 2022 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am at St. Catherine followed by the Mass at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made either to the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana, Inc. or to Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, in Dennis, Massachusetts.

Ray was one of the nicest most humble person you could meet. Such a gentleman and great listener. I really enjoyed his laugh and knew him as someone who appreciated the simple things in life. Rest In Peace
