Raymond Brum Obituary

Published by Bristol Phoenix on Nov. 1, 2022.
Raymond Brum was born at his family home on May 31, 1943 to parents Joseph and Virginia Brum. He passed away on October 29, 2022 at his home, with his wife Maryann Brum and their children Scott and Mia and other loving family members by his side.

Raymond prided himself on many things but being a husband, father and grandfather were at the top of his list. He was known as PT to his granddaughters Nya and Thea Brum and as Ray-Ray to his grandchildren Jackson and Ella Viveiros. He loved his grandchildren deeply and they were the pride and joy of his life. He was there for everything from games, to recitals to school events and always with a big smile and a hearty whistle.

Ray was one of five siblings – Joseph(Betty) Brum, Natalie(Red) Ferreira, Dorothy(Roger) Wilson and Elizabeth(the late Thomas) Vendituoli – who are all similar in many ways holding the strong values of family, faith, hard work, and love for their community. Raymond worked in his father's store Brum's Superette alongside his father for years, loved being the driver of school bus #1, and ended his career working for the United States Postal Service as a supervisor. He worked as a third shift supervisor there but would still set his alarm to watch his favorite Boston Red Sox if there was a mid-afternoon game on. Raymond was a lover of all sports on and off TV, even up until recently where he was actively involved in a local senior softball and basketball league. He was the former commissioner of the Bristol Softball league. You could always find Ray at a local school sporting event cheering his loved ones on, from his granddaughter playing soccer to a great nephew playing football. He loved being everyone's biggest cheerleader, and to let them know that by simply showing up and being there was his way of telling you how much he loved you.

Raymond had a strong sense of loyalty to his country. He was a part of the 113 Field Artillery National Guard in Bristol for over 25 years.

Ray and his wife Maryann recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Some of their best memories together included their time in Florida post-retirement. Ray loved the sun and even better a tan. He and his wife had fun no matter where they traveled or what they did together…they really just were the best of friends. They grew up together and grew old together and that was what the plan was for them from the beginning.

Ray had a big heart and a bigger laugh. The man loved a good joke, loved to dance when the moment was right and always loved to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He instilled these values in his loved ones and really made everyone feel like they had a buddy if they knew him. He was kind, funny and loving and heaven has truly gained a beautiful angel.

My condolences to Mary Ann and family. Ray was a superb non commissioned officer and friend. He served me well as my time as commander of Battery C 1/103d FA from 1997-2000. Or as Ray liked to say `Charlie Battalion.´ He will be sorely missed. Many fond memories. May he rest in peace.
