Raymond J. Buchman

DEFIANCE - Raymond J. Buchman (Spark) passed away at 1:48 a.m. Saturday at the Gardens of Paulding under Elara Hospice. Raymond had resided at the Gardens the last several years.

Raymond was born in Paulding County on September 11, 1934, to the late John and Ruby (Gunderman) Buchman. On April 30, 1955, he married Marlene Ann (Spengler) Buchman. She preceded him in death on January 29, 1990. On April 23, 1993, he married Linda Johnson and she also preceded him in death on January 27, 2016.

He worked at Dinner Bell for over 30 years before the plant closed in 1990. He also served in the Ohio National Guard.

Raymond will be sadly missed by his children, Shelley Kent, Dan (Rita) Buchman and Julie (Bob) Baldwin, all of Defiance. He is also survived by four grandkids, Emily Kent, Kristina (Lynn) Carpenter, of Defiance, Tiffany (Del) Betz of Mark Center and Matthew Kent of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by six great-grandkids. Raymond is also survived by his brother, Martin (Buzz) and Mary Ann of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and sister-in-law, Patricia Buchman of Paulding.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Laukhuf, Katherine Clark, Janice McMillan and Louise Buchman, brothers, Richard Buchman, James Buchman, and infant brother, David Buchman.

He enjoyed going to local county fairs with family and friends and enjoyed horse racing. Both dad and mom enjoyed camping down by the river in Charloe with their friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Den Herder Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, with military rites accorded by the Defiance VFW Post 3360.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Den Herder Funeral Home. There will also be visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Gardens for their care of dad. He really enjoyed his stay and Elara Hospice for their wonderful care since November, not just for Dad but for the family too.
