Raymond Newman, 88, of Orion passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Ray was born August 18, 1934 in Lynn Center, the son of S. Fred and Jennie Stewart Newman. He graduated from Orion High School in 1952. He marriage to his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Humphrey, took place on October 4, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orion. He loved farming and made it his career in Osco, for 60 years.
His love for his wife and family brought him great joy. He was known for an infectious laugh and he could often be heard whistling cheerfully. His was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and Valley View Golf Club in Cambridge. Ray enjoyed life; making the most of each day. Hobbies included bowling, golf, and playing cards – spending time with his many friends.
Ray leaves behind his wife of over 70 years, Ruth Ann; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Doris Newman, San Antonio, TX, Joel and Bonnie Newman, Lynn Center, Stephen and Lisa Newman, Orion and daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jeff Brotherson, Burlington, IA, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Dwayne Newman, Orion. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Keith, three grandsons, a great grandson, five sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 11 th at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover, with Rev. Randall Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, also at the church. Memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church.

I just heard! I am so sad and so sorry. We all loved Ray very much and it was an honor knowing him and caring for him over the years. He will be missed.

Ray and his son,Joe used to come into Hafers for a burger and a ice cold beer.He was a good friend to my parents
