Raymond Shawn O'Connor Obituary

Born in 1947 in New Haven, CT to Raymond J. O'Connor and Margaret Bohan O'Connor. Ray passed away peacefully in Stuart, FL on April 5th. He was the loving husband of Constance O'Connor for 36 years, father of Tom (Rebecca), Kieran (Jennifer), Meg, and Adam (Ashley) and grandfather of Alistair, Audrey, Ryan, Toby, Declan, Liam, Kieran, Miles and Cameron. Ray grew up in Milford, CT with brothers Vinnie and Tom and attended Fairfield Prep ('65) and later Boston College (69').

After graduating from BC and attending Columbia Business School, Ray began a long 34-year career with the Xerox Corporation, culminating with management assignments in Turkey and Venezuela. Ray's love of travel and new experiences brought him all over the world in both professional and personal capacities. While living in Istanbul and Caracas, Ray sought to immerse Connie and his children in the local culture and customs, believing that new life experiences were just as important in educational development as anything learned in the classroom.

After retiring from Xerox, Ray and Connie settled in Stuart, FL. Ray loved to play and watch tennis with Connie and enjoyed a strong community of friends in Stuart. Always the consummate host, Ray loved having parties and was always making sure everyone was having a good time. For many years before moving to Florida, he and Connie would host a New Years Eve family billiard tournament that would go late into the evening. He loved to travel and firmly instilled that passion in all of his children. He loved watching his Boston College Eagles, subjecting Connie to many many hours of mediocre football while always being a dedicated fan.

Ray's greatest love in life, however, was his devoted wife Connie. While they enjoyed many trips around the world and loved living abroad, Ray was perhaps most happy at home with Connie watching tennis or a good movie together. In the last few years, Connie would provide unwavering support during Ray's medical challenges and their relationship was a lasting example of a true loving partnership.

There will be a family service held this Summer.

I will always remember my friend and colleague, Ray (aka ROC), at Xerox as a consummate professional who, by his special demeanor and steady, consistent management style, was able to effectively motivate his team to achieve their best results. He was always confident, dedicated and respectful. He showed enormous courage in stressful situations and was able to maintain a great sense of humor. Kathy and I wish to share our heartfelt condolences to Connie and her entire family. Ray will be in our memories.

I was a classmate of Ray and Steve McGovern at Prep from 1961 to 1965. Born in New Haven with cousins, Dick and Tom Lynch, in Milford. Sorry to hear of Ray's passing. Wish I knew he was in Florida since I have been in Orlando, Naples and Ave Maria over the last 25 years.

So sorry to learn of Ray's passing. Played football with Ray at Prep. As a Milford boy, I was lucky to get many rides to Fairfield and back from Ray and Vin. Although its almost 60 years , I still have fond memories of Ray.
