Raymond Paxton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2025.
Raymond "Ray" M. Paxton of Montgomery, Illinois passed peacefully on June 1, 2025 in the loving embrace of his wife and son. He was born in Pickaway County, Ohio on September 16, 1947. His parents, Raymond and Opal (Amerine) Paxton, infant sister Ruth and his older sister Pauline (Merle) Jones proceeded him in death.

A veteran of the US Army, he served 4 years in Nuremburg, Germany. Ray retired from General Mills in West Chicago where he worked as a machine operator/lubricator for more than 35 years. He was multi-talented, being an extraordinary woodworker, itinerant tinker and endless consumer of knowledge of all kinds. He was always willing to lend his support, help and advice to those he loved. His quick wit, dry sense of humor, unparalleled knowledge and deep wisdom left everyone better for the experience. He loved to travel, hunt, fish, watch Babylon 5 reruns, play chess and spend time with his family. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them and remained devoted to them until the very last.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 54 years, June, his (#1) son Jeff (Michele) Paxton, four grandchildren Jessica (Sid) Chanthavong, Caitlin (Austin) Caravia, Jacob (Becca) Paxton and Rebecca (Jordan) Roberts, two step-grandchildren Nathanial (Maddie) Hall and Ethan Hjelm. He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren Caleb and Caden Chanthavong, Ayla Caravia, Levi and Noella Roberts and Aria Hjelm. His sister Mary (John) Spohn, niece Sonya (Scott) Knece, nephew Raymond (Valerie) Paxton, great nieces and nephews and his brother-in-law Kenny Bowers survive him in Ohio. He leaves behind many friends and acquaintances who will never forget him.

At Ray's request, no public service or memorial will be held. He was an intensely private man and as such, the family will hold a private celebration of his life. The family would like to thank all who knew and loved him for their treasured additions to the story of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Cancer Research Institute at www.cancerresearch.org.

A man like Ray is a rare gift and we are all richer for having known, loved and been loved by him. Rest In Peace, young man.

I´ve loved you for 45 years,& I always will. You made me laugh with your little pranks, jokes & tricks you´d play on me. We had a great marriage, took awesome trips, completed some bucket lists, watched our family grow & keep growing! Those are among just a few memories that will sustain me until I see you again. Love you forever, your "Lulu" (as you liked to call me)
