Raymond PHILLIPS

I worked with Ray when he was a regional manager with the Technical Service Council. I read his reports and occasionally talked to him on the phone, but saw him only four times a year. It was soon evident that he was the kind of star firms try to hire, but seldom find. He did a superior job with no direction and little fuss. He was popular with customers and respected by employees. In meetings he could be counted on to make practical proposals and to offer tactful comments about less-inspired ideas. I soon felt he was a friend who was fun to be with and utterly reliable.

After we both retired we traded Christmas cards with notes, but didn't meet for 15 or perhaps 20 years. Last year, my wife Shirley and I met Ray and Kae at the Calgary airport. Their warm reception made us feel as though we'd been seeing them every week. A great guy who will be remembered fondly for his warmth, sense of humour and many talents.

To Mrs. Phillips and Family: I have just heard the news about the passing of Mr. Phillips. His kindness to me at several critical points (e.g. the death of my mother; giving the toast at my wedding)during my formative years has left an indelible impression on me.
My condolences to all of you as you go through this difficult journey.

Ray was the best of friends. I wrote about my friendship with Ray in my book, We Gambled Everything. We joined the army on the same day and swore in on the same Bible. That day was the beginning of a friendship that lasted a lifetime. We both went to Camp Borden, Ontario in service to our country. After the war we both graduated from the University of Alberta. Ray was an engineer and I was a geologist. Both of our careers were in the oil industry. Through all those years we remained good friends. I am very saddened at the loss of a great friend. My sincere condolences to you,Kae, and your family.

I am very saddened to learn about the passing of Ray. We worked for many years at AOSTRA and he was a leader in our Calgary operations. He was highly supportive of the goals of the organization and a delight to have as a colleague. We enjoyed many evening occasions with Ray and Kae. Ray organized an AOSTRA reunion a few years ago which brought many of our team together. My deep sympathys to the family.

Dating back to Turner Valley 1947 48 our dearest friends , and neigbours in those days. Part of a gang of ex TValley's that maintained contact through Christmas and New Years over all those passing years,bridge parties, poker parties, regular lunch dates, golf games, were just part of the regular contacts we maintained, and now Ray is gone but never forgotten.We hope and pray that contact will be maintain through memories and through Kae and his family. Rest In Peace dear friend.

We had many memorable games of bridge over the years,and also some good rounds of golf. We will miss those good times.
