Raymond Schilt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2024.
We are sorry to share that Tim Schilt passed away on Tuesday, April 23rd, surrounded by his two daughters and son in law. Tim was 78 years old.

Tim was born in Oceanport, New Jersey on July 28th, 1945 and moved to Carle Place, New York at a young age. He graduated from Carle Place High School in 1963, where he was a member of the tennis and golf teams. He started college at the University Of Virginia in 1963 but later transferred to Hofstra University to help care for his family due to his mother's cancer diagnosis. He graduated from Hofstra in 1967 with a B.A. Tim maintained a long and close association with the University of Virginia over the years and remained an avid follower and fan of all sports.

Tim began his career at Merrill Lynch in 1968 and eventually became Vice President and Portfolio Manager of both Merrill Lynch Capital Fund and the Merrill Lynch Pacific Fund. From 1983 to 1985, Tim was at Asia Management Corporation as President and Portfolio Manager of the Japan Fund, the first US-based mutual fund invested solely in Japanese equities. Tim joined Morgan Stanley in 1985 as Director of Research and Investment Strategist, where he helped build and manage the Tokyo-based research team. From 1988 to 2000, Tim was a Managing Director at Tiger Management Corporation, where he spearheaded the movement into Japanese long and short investments and was involved in US equity analysis. In 1996, he moved to Japan to manage and expand Tiger's Tokyo research team. Tim later became a Managing Director at K2 Advisors, a fund of hedge funds firm. In 2003, Tim joined Berens Capital Management, a global investment management firm, as a Partner and co-Chief Investment Officer. He then served as a Partner at Alternative Investment Group. He remained there until he retired in 2020.

Tim served as a Board Member of the Tiger Foundation, the Japan Society, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. He also served as a Non-Executive Director of Rodinia Partners.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Yoshiko; his daughters Courtney and Kirsten and her husband Michael. He was predeceased by his brother Robert H. Schilt; and is survived by brother Peter; six grandchildren Jordan, Reilly, Ava, Callie, Paul and Lilah; and three nephews, Bobby, Ryan, and John, who will all deeply miss him. We know he has finally reunited with his loving brother Bobby and his mother and father.

The family is having private funeral services. There will be a celebration of his life to be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the Schilt family asks those wishing to make memorial donations to direct them to East End Hospice; 481 Westhampton-Riverhead Road, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of my cousin Tim. We were born a week apart, and I have sweet photos of our moms together, and then the two of us tucked into Grampa’s arms. Fond memories of the childhood days together at the beach and the great family get-togethers at the holidays. A life well lived.

Our deepest sympathies to Yoshiko, Kirsten, Courtney, Pete and the entire family. We will always remember the kindness, generosity and sympathy that Tim and Yoshiko showed us in our worst time Tim was a class act that we are proud to call a friend. Mike, Michelle, Denise and Tess Parker.

Friends that sustain you for a lifetime. That's what we are. Tim, Bob, Larry, Rich and I all knew each other in high school but we bonded as lifelong friends in the early yeays of marriage and raising our kids. As a group, we were family, friends forever - and our kids have become friends forever. Tim, Kirsten and Courtney are part of us and we them. Thanks Tim.

I don't recall the event, but this is the first Fisher family photo that both Tim and I are in. I think it was taken at grandma's and grandpa's house on Watts Place.

He was such a kind and giving man, and we will all miss him dearly! God Bless you all!
