Raymond Worth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2019.
Raymond Richard 'Dick' Worth, age 72, of Vassar Michigan, passed away at home at 9:00 pm on February 17, 2019. Dick was born on January 20, 1947 in Sikeston, Missouri to his late parents Valley Brooks and Julie Bell Rettig Worth. He moved to Michigan at the age of 12 and began working at local dairy farms. At the age of 18, he took a position at General Motors and retired after 30 years. Dick was an avid entrepreneur, first building a family business, Worth Construction, and then turning his hobbies and passions into other professions including Horizon Aviation and Double D Ranch. Dick is survived by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Dorothy Worth, his son, Valley Ray (Tammy), daughters Amy Elizabeth and Sarah Renae (TJ DeKett), his grandchildren Taylor, Nichole, Jacob, Elizabeth, Lemmy and great-grandchild, Jaxson; brother Bill Worth of Florida and life-long best friend, Terry Coutcher. He is preceded in death by twelve siblings. Dick was a hard-working man and a loving father. He had a passion for flying airplanes and helicopters, his favorite being his Jet Ranger helicopter. He loved to care for his cattle at the Double D Ranch, often calling them his babies. His family and friends will always remember him as the legendary man he was. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Penzien Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar with a luncheon to follow at Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Rev. David Wermuth will officiate. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or McLaren Hospice.

I remember Dick would fly his helicopter over to our airfield and pick up my son and I for a ride. So cool. So generous.

Dick was a 20+ year friend and mentor. Big smile, big ideas, big presence, bigger heart. With all that success, even when things got slow Dick showed great loyalty for his team-mates and always ensured a paycheck kept coming. Dick's concern for others is just one of his traits that made him a GREAT man.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family.

I am very sorry I am out of town and can't make the service.

Dick was a great guy and he also offered support to me in the earliest days of my business. But more important than that he shared with wisdom that was maybe more insightful and wise than even he knew. Those words have stuck with me all these years later. Thank you and safe travels my friend. Chuck
