Rebecca “Becky” Rae McLain (nee Karns), 78 of Ocean Springs, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 2, 2023 with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Becky, as she was known to all who loved her, was born in Santa Monica, CA on December 11, 1944 to Randolph Hughey Karns and Rachel Crew Karns. She eventually settled in the San Francisco Bay area after graduating from UC Berkeley in the 60’s, which she always said was a wild time. Then, she married Robert Frank McLain, and had one daughter, Leslie. In the fall of 2020, she moved to Ocean Springs, MS to live with Leslie and family, and also to be closer to extended family whom always meant so much to her. Becky would want people to remember her for her love of family, traveling, good food, good friends, and living life BIG. She jumped on every opportunity.
In her memory, please eat a good meal with lots of chocolate (don’t forget to have your side salad), support local theater groups (especially children’s musical theater), take a random trip to a place you never thought you’d go, and don’t forget to buy so many souvenirs that you’ll have to also buy an extra suitcase to get them home. Becky loved this world, as well as everyone and everything in it. The best way to honor her is to go out and enjoy it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph Hughey Karns and Rachel Crew Karns.
Becky is survived by her children, Leslie (Kyle) Chronister and Robert (Janet) McLain; and grandchildren, Noah, Emma, and Rocky.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in her memory to local theater groups, in particular, children’s musical theaters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Centerpointe Church in Ocean Springs in the near future.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Rebecca McLain.
