Reggie Gray was my team Warrant Officer in Bad Tolz (ODA 016). He was a straight shooter, a man of integrity, and a mentor who spoke softly, but with confidence. He loved the mountains and could walk up and down them all day long. We nicknamed him 2K because when asked how much further we had to go, he always said 2K. I learned to stop asking how much further Chief.

Reggie and I served together in the Special Forces in Germany beginning 1977 until we left sometime around 1980. He was a fine soldier and a pleasure to serve with.

I found this sad news of Reggie´s passing researching a training accident in the White Mountains in 1981. I believe I served with Reggie in the late mid-late 70s. He was quiet and very earnest, and would always share reasoned perspective on something under discussion, and not give up easily in his efforts to educate the listener. I´m thinking he came into 10th at Ft Devens after a break in service, if I recall. Maybe in a functional and well-worn 4x4 pickup truck? The epitome of the SOF moniker "Quiet Professional."

I had the honor of serving with Reggie in the 10th and was a frequent attached team member with Reg and Reggie's good friend Mike Bingo's team ODA 315 (shortage of 05B's in those days). I am also a proud fellow Vermonter. Reg was an excellent skier, climber, and just as important, an excellent instructor in those and many other military skills. Reg, looks like I screwed up catching up with you before you departed, but I know we will pick up right where we left off when I see you again. I will do my utmost to linkup at the final RP in the sky. Travel well.

We are so very sorry about the passing of your dad. While we cant imagine the pain that you must be feeling, we hope that you know were thinking of you, and that were here for you no matter what you need.
From what I knew about your father while growing up and Ben always basically living at your house, he was an amazingly gentle man who gave everything he had to whoever needed it. Listening to stories about him today at his service just proved that fact, that he was an amazing man, and a true American hero.
We will continue to pray for you both and hope that you know were here for you always. Sean - we love you and were thinking about you constantly.

To the Gray Family,
I was surprised and saddened to hear of Reggie's passing - he left us far too soon.
I was fortunate to have Reggie as my first Team Sergeant on ODA-075. He was the consummate trainer - skilled, patient, thoughtful, and dedicated. Attached is a photo of our Team while deployed on a training mission in Austria. Reggie is partially obscured in this photo - which is somewhat fitting, since he was never one to seek the limelight. He was a superb Mountaineer, a Bergfuhrer in his own right, and adept at training the rest of the Team. A true professional in every way.
God Bless you Reggie - and thank you for your service.

I didn't know Reg as well as I wish I did. He always seemed like someone who had a lot of good stories to tell about his life and wisdom to pass on. Most of all the Reg I knew was a genuinely good person and I'm privileged to have known him. I'm very sorry for his passing and I'll be praying for him and all his family. God Bless.

The Zore Family would like to send our deepest sense of sorrow at the news of Regis' passing. He was a good man, a patriot of our country, someone who cared about doing the right things. Our children knew him as the father of their friends and we knew him as a good neighbor. We will miss him and pray for him and the whole family to be consoled during this time of grief. Sincerely, Mary Richard, Katy, Chrissy and Tony Zore

To the Gray family,
Please accept my condolences on the passing of Reggie. I had the honor to serve with Reggie for a number of years over several tours of duty at Ft. Devens, MA and Bad Toelz, GE. He was a leader and mentor on my first Special Forces team, SFODA 315, in early 1982, and he continued to be a mentor and good friend over our other assignments together. We both retired to NH and I had the pleasure to be able to continue our friendship into retirement. He was a highly competent soldier, leader, and Mountaineer, however he always remained the quiet professional. He will surely be missed by his family and his extended family of friends, coworkers, and fellow soldiers. I will be present on Saturday to pay my respects and say goodbye. I have included one of several photos I still have of Reggie and I, doing what he loved, skiing, circa early to mid-eighties.

The Gray Family, I served with Reginald in 1977-78 on Special Forces ODA-5 (Mountain) in Bad Toelz, Germany. He was my mentor on mountain operations, climbing, skiing, equipment, and methods. A true warrior, an amazing man. "He who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother".

It is our intent for some of us to travel to Newport on 18 Jan and share in the celebration of Reggie's life and honor his devoted service and patriotism to the Army Special Forces and our Nation.

I served with Reggie in early 80s in the 10th Group. We were not on the same team, but in the same company. Of the many men I served with there, Reggie was one of the ones I remember. I think I remember him because he was often teaching. Whether skiing, mountaineering, shooting or whatever, Reggie was trying to help raise our skill level. Like this photo shows, Reggie teaching me how to better shoot the M-79. I have not seen him since that time, but I know he will be greatly missed by those near him.

Reggie - Man, I just don't see you gone. You're just making another climb, with the big Bergfuhrer in the sky. Proud to have served with you Reggie. I will remember, "gots to be careful". Damn good skier, climber and soldier. Blue skies and deep powder my friend. My condolences to your family.

We were so sorry to hear of Reg's passing. He will be missed. I always enjoyed our discussions of history. Whenever we were going to take a trip somewhere he could always tell me of places to visit. The fall will not be the same without Reg blowing all the leaves out of his yard with his leaf blower. May he rest in peace.
