What a beautiful life Rex lived. His passing is very sad news to his cousins on his Mother´s side of the family. When Sherron told me of Rex´s diagnosis, I was shocked.
I had anticipated visiting Rex during my upcoming trip back to Jacksonville. The last time I talked to Rex, was a three way conversation, over the phone with Sherron. It was eight days before my planned visit to Jacksonville.
I texted Dot when I arrived to let her know I was in Jacksonville and would like to visit Rex, if he were up to the visit. I didn´t receive a reply until Saturday morning, with the news that Rex had passed away.
During that last conversation with Rex, his voice was strong, as he asked some questions about relatives on his Mother´s side of the family, and discussed my upcoming visit. We were both looking forward to our visit together. It gives me some comfort that we had that conversation. However, I am very sad that I didn´t make it soon enough to see Rex one last time.
Please accept our deepest condolences to you, Dot, and to all family members and friends. Our love and prayers are with you at your time of sorrow.

It is an honor to have known you. You will always be one of my best and most special friends. You always had words of encouragement for me and helped me believe in myself to get out of construction. I still use your old phrase "everyone has brain farts" sometimes so don't judge anyone on one action. You will be truly missed. And I will never forget your birthday December 6th, I will miss our call and catching up. Give my mom and Sammy hugs for me up there. You know mom always really liked you. Thank you for walking me and mom down the aisle on my wedding day. I was so happy you and Dot were there. Sending prayers for the family I know he loved ya'll as much as you love him. I love the white tshirts and jeans, I've never known him to wear anything different (except occasions) even in the heat of Florida summers working outside. I love you dearly old friend, I'm thankful for your peace.

I was just a kid when he met my mom. As I grew up he became the best Pop to all of us kids and the grandkids. He didn´t treat us as his stepchildren, we were treated like we were his own children and he told people we were his. He had a genuine love for us all. He always wanted to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything he was there to make sure we were taken care of. He was the most non-judgemental person I had met, with an easy going laid back spirit that was so comfortable to be around. He had a great sense of humor that everyone just enjoyed being around. Pop will be missed so much and live forever in our hearts.
