Rex McFadden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2012.
Rex V. McFadden, 79 of Lubbock passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 10, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2 pm at Redbud Baptist Church with Rev. Shon Wagner and Syl Moore officiating, burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held tonight from 5-7 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Rex was born on November 7, 1932 in Olton, Texas to Roy and Vera McFadden. He attended public Schools in Olton graduating from there in 1949. On March 16th, 1952 he married the love of his life, Linda Dewberry after meeting on a blind date; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March. Early in his life Rex was very involved in the family farm in Olton, which gave him the aspirations for some of the business he started later in life.

As a local business owner he owned and operated Shur Gro Irrigation, Well-Frac, Rex McFadden Co, Sky Tex Rigs and DCP. During the 1980's he was a partner in DCP who bought and sold drilling equipment for the oil field as well as drilled in the gulf with an offshore rig named Big John. Rex was very instrumental in bringing the first Valley Center pivots to West Texas. With Shur Gro Irrigation he sold and installed center pivots all over the plains of Texas. He later advanced with technology started by Du Pont and developed acids and other products for fracing irrigation wells to increase production; some of this technology was also used in the oil fields. Rex drilled irrigation wells all over the plains and could tell you where there was water and where there wasn't. He designed and built pipe elevators for water and oil drilling rigs that are still being sold all over the world as Sky Rex Elevators.
Rex was very generous with his time and talent. In 1970 after the May 11th tornados hit Lubbock, there was no power for communication in many areas of town. Rex had a two way radio system and was able to assist many in the community in different ways. He assisted Continental Airlines with their communication so that they would still be able to operate at the Lubbock Airport. He and Wayne Teal donated property to the Frenship School District for Willow Bend Elementary.

Rex is survived by his wife, Linda of the home, one daughter, Dawn Nivens and her husband Danny, one son Rocky McFadden, five grandchildren; Laceé Short and husband Danny, Eric McFadden and wife Kim, Candice Anderson and husband James, and Nicole Johnson and husband Daniel, twin great grandchildren; Ace and Brooklyn Short, one brother, Royce McFadden and one sister, Rosalie Sims and husband Frank.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to Hospice of Lubbock, Cal Farley Boy's Ranch or Redbud Baptist Church.

Rex will be missed dearly by all that knew him, he will be forever in our hearts.

To my sweet dear friends... Miss Linda, an awesome and beautiful lady! I'm about 110% sure.... You were a most wonderful and amazing wife and friend to a wonderful and sweet sweet man... And he loved you with all of his heart! Your sweet husband. God's abundant grace.....He'll carry you always... and one sweet day, we'll all meet again in
heaven and it will be PERFECT! My sympathy, prayers and love are with you!
Dawn, such a sweet and awesome lady....but no wonder! What sweet beautiful people God blessed you to have as a Mama and Daddy!
We've known each other longer than i realize! We watched our little girls grow up together .... Always back and forth to Wollforth! :) there was nothing we wouln't do for them. And even though they are now grown..... It's still hard to think of them being adults! Can't help but see them still...as little girls! Time just passes sooo quickly!
Oh but what a time we had at school parties! ;) nothing could've kept us away! Those school parties... YAY! and we enjoyed every minute of if! ;) sometimes our Mothers were on call to pick up the girls...Lacee... and mine.... Amber & Abi. I remember your Mama motioning to me....get in the car while we wait! Ha! We both wanted to talk and make known our thoughts and how it 'otta be'... Seeing you all and your Mama and Daddy at Shadow Hills Church. I couldn't help but to have an overwhelming care and love for them. Your Daddy reminded me of my sweet Grandad! I 'said' to you in an email.... I just knew once your Daddy met Jesus... I'm almost positive he met my Grandad!
Wow! Your Mama and Daddy such good people and good hearts!
I pray God continues to wrap His almighty arms around each of you! Just think.... He's holding ya'll and your Daddy is right there with Him! Now that surely must bring a 'calm' to your minds and hearts! Closer than we might ever realize! Lately, that has been in my mind and I know it's another blessing .... miracle! His plan will always be perfect, although for now, we are not close to knowing what, why or when things happen. But by God's Amazing Grace, we know we'll all be together again. FAITH! Your Daddy will always be an angel watching over you and your family...what an amazing Daddy! My prayers and love to you and your family!
Ooohhh Lacee honey,
Yes, your Mamaw and Papaw .....amazing people! I know you'll miss your Papaw more than words can explain... But as you said...You'll be that rock for your Mamaw, Mama....all!
I know you will....because you have that kind of heart.... Beautiful heart! Your Papaw is still so very close to you and I know he's smiling because he also knows your heart!
Talk about him always to those precious babies....show them pictures. My grandad so wanted to see Amber walk and talk, everything! She was only 6 mo old when he went 'Home', but we've always told her how much he loved her. Abi wasn't here yet, but we tell her all about him, too. For sure he
would think Abi was a hoot and he'd love it! He loved laughing! Amber would be his 'monkey'! When she was born, he said it didn't matter...she could be a monkey and he'd love her just as much! :)
You...a blessing to them and they...a blessing to you! I know how close you were and always will be even though you can't see but can talk to Papaw. He'll always be your angel.... and with you at all times. My heart is with you...all of you! I'm praying for a calm to be with you as much as possible! One day! It'll be perfect when we're with those we love! We know God's plan is nothing short of perfect! I love your Mama and Mamaw! My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you go through this very difficult time. I love you! God will continue to carry you, and all of your family!
Many blessings!!!

Grandpa you lived life to the fullest! The summers that I worked with you I learned a lot. The first lesson was always have work gloves in your truck...you never know when you'll run into hard work. The second is that a tortilla and a hot link make a great lunch! Thanks for teaching me the rewards of a hard days work and showing me how big of a heart you have. Love you always and miss you!

Our Grandpa was a very good man and he will surely be missed by many. There are no words for how sorry I am for his loss. I will always remember him with his white cowboy hat sitting at his desk with the smell of cigars in the air, or pretending to be bartenders at his and grandma's bar. I regret that I was not able to make it back to Texas in time to see him again but he will be remembered for the man he was when we were there. Grandma I know you are a strong woman and have a very supportive family close by and for that I am grateful that you will never be alone. Grandpa will live on in all of us and will be missed forever. Hope to see everyone soon.

Rex was so much fun to be around. He had great stories to tell and they always made me laugh. He had a memory like a steel trap. He could remember names and numbers better than anyone I have ever known. He will be greatly missed. Family, just know a special angel has entered the pearly gates.
