Rex Pope

Rex Luke Pope, 83, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025. A memorial service celebrating Rex's life will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m. with visitation preceding the service starting at 2:00 p.m. at UA Local 100 at 3010 I-30, Mesquite, TX. Lunch will be served immediately following.

Born on May 17, 1941, in Marshall, Texas, Rex was the son of the late Luke and Velma Pope. He attended Marshall High School. Rex proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He met the love of his life, Dana Pope, while stationed in Lubbock. After they married, they settled down and started their family in Dallas where he joined and became a proud and dedicated member of Local Union 100 for many years.

Rex had a passion for the outdoors and spent countless hours fishing, hunting, and watching ball games. A lifelong athlete, he not only played but also coached his sons' soccer and softball teams throughout his life. He was fondly known as one of the neighborhood dads, always lending a hand and cheering on local kids.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dana Pope, as well as his two brothers, James Pope and Billy Wayne Pope.

Rex was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Wise; his sons, Bobby Pope, Lance Pope and his wife Sharon; and his grandchildren, Randy Pope, William Pope, Renee Pope, Cody Pope, Laura Pope Cottrell and husband Dustin, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom will forever cherish his memory.

He was a man of strong convictions and a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. His legacy of warmth, integrity, his commitment to his community, and his unwavering love for family will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
