Rex Wolfe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 23, 2012.
WOLFE - Rex F. Wolfe, September 7, 1958 to January 21, 2012. Rex F. Wolfe, age 53, of Lowell, MI, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield, MI following his extremely courageous battle of an aggressive metastatic cancer diagnosed October 2011. Visitation for Rex will be held at the Dewey Funeral Home in Alma, MI, on Tuesday, January 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. Minister John Robinson of the Forest Hill Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Alma. Rex was born on September 7, 1958 in Flint, MI to Terrill and Joan (Losey) Wolfe. He graduated from Alma High School in 1977. Rex attended Ferris State University, graduating with High Distinction in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Throughout his career, his masterful diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities were his trademark. Rex was exceptionally talented and excelled at all of his passions to include, but not limited to, the entire construction of his previous home in the Cedar Springs, MI area, all phases of restoring automobiles (both engine and body work), his musical talents including playing the trumpet, harmonica and banjo, his comedic humor and spontaneous wit kept all who knew him constantly amused with his hilarious one-liners and his overly funny retorts. Rex loved Michigan and spending time with family and friends in the great outdoors, pursuing favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, golfing, camping with family in Northern and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and he was a skilled master of his BBQ Grill. Rex loved living in the country on a horse ranch with his wife, Kathy, several horses, and his tag along doggie pals, "Shadow" (black lab) and "Toby" (Cairn terrier). Growing up, Rex was also very fond of his doggies "BO" and "Rusty". Rex was employed in the Technical Research division of General Motors, and later became a licensed Welder/Pipefitter, having been a member of the West Michigan Plumbers, Fitters and Service trades. Rex was a loyal and true friend to many and a faithful employee. He was an inspiration to all, as he worked for a host of employers sharing his enormous skills. Rex was always a very intelligent conscientious perfectionist. He served the construction industry proudly and he will be fondly remembered by the many friends he made along his journey. Rex married Kathy Haveman in 1999 and they resided in Lowell, MI. Most of all Rex enjoyed doing anything and everything that he could for his family and many friends, always giving of his time and efforts ahead of his own interests. Surviving Rex are his wife, Kathleen A. Wolfe of Lowell, MI; his father, Terrill "Terry" of Alma, MI; two sisters, Terri Linn (Thomas) Richards of Stevensville, MI and Cheryl V. Hines of Mt. Pleasant, MI; two stepchildren, Kelley (Eric) Montague of Fremont, MI and Brad Haveman of Lowell, MI; four grandchildren, Gage, Chase and Rhyse Montague and Kayla Haveman; his mother-in-law, Arlene Hall of Newaygo, MI; his sister-in-law, Sandra (Robert) Latimer of Beaver Island, MI; two nieces, Kylie and Hillary Hines of Mt. Pleasant, MI; his nephew, Bradley Hines of Mt. Pleasant, MI; and his grand-nephew, Landon Garcia of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Rex was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Wolfe; his nephew, David Garcia, and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. The family is being served by the Dewey Funeral Home of Alma, MI.

Dennis & I were shocked to hear of Rex's passing. Rex was a Happy-go-lucky guy, who always made you laugh. And Rex was like a brother to Dennis, and they enjoyed each other's company, and spent many happy hours working together. He will be missed very much by us.

To the entire Wolfe family, you are in the thoughts and prayers of many. Most importantly you are in the thoughts of the most high, God. I pray he gives you the peace that you need and that each day becomes more bearable than the last day. May he hold you close to his heart and comfort you like no other. My heartfelt prayers are with you.

I have years of memories of Rex. We went to grade school, middle school, high school and even college together. It makes us pause as we learn of the passing of someone with whom we shared our formative years. Blessings on the family and friends he left behind.

With sympathy
