I was about 11 years old when Richard married my sister Margaret, it was the occasion of my first pair of long trousers! This was in Oldham, Lancashire, a mill town in the north of England. Imagine the curiosity about an American, and a GI at that, coming into the family! He was a lot of fun but also very kind and convinced our parents that he would properly care for Margaret, which he did. Here“s a photo from the wedding - parents, 2 grandmothers, and Aunt Rachel.
