Richard Amato Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2020.
Richard James Amato went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 4, 2020. He was surrounded by the love of his son, his two daughters, and two of his granddaughters.
Richard (Richie) Amato is preceded in death by his father Angelo Anthony Amato, his mother Josephine Amato, his brother Joseph Amato, and his beloved wife Christine Amato.
He is survived by his brother David Amato, his son Christian Amato, daughter Nicole Amato, daughter Tina Amato, and five grandchildren, Richard Amato (Rachel), Dustin Amato, Amanda Amato, Brooke Bertinelli (Brandyn) and Lauren Pyle, and 2 great grandchildren, Michael Bertinelli, and Jaxon Bertinelli, and godsons Nicholas D’Annunzio (Tara Solomon) and Nicholas Paglia (Angelica). He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Richard began his life in Cleveland, Ohio on August 16, 1941.Richard graduated from Parma High School, Class of 1959. He attended classes at Bowling Green State University. Richard worked in the family’s produce market with his father as a young man. When his father Angelo traveled to Vegas to attend to his bar business, he flew back home to Cleveland with a man named Nicholas Paglia. That’s when fate stepped in. Angelo (Gelo, as he was called) asked Richie to bring over some produce and fruit to Nick Paglia’s home. On that day, Gail Paglia ran into her older sister’s room, and said, “Chrissy, you have to come out and see this guy!!! He’s so cute.” Richard and Christine fell madly in love. He even took Christine (three years younger than he) to her senior prom. Richard proposed to Christine and they were married years later. They had three children, Richard Christian, Nicole Rachele and Tina Marie.  He lived with his wife Christine and children in Cleveland until they decided to make the move out to Las Vegas, in 1973.
In Las Vegas, Richard began working in the casino industry at the Stardust and then eventually moved over to the Sands Hotel where he remained an employee for approximately 15 years, providing a beautiful and joyous life for his wife and their three children. He then began his own business and later retired with his wife by his side.
Richie developed deep friendships easily with many friends, even considering his dear friends Joe and Marcia Slyman as family, and they enjoyed many weekends together, vacations together, and shared many Sunday spaghetti diners together with their families though the years. Richie was loved by so many people. His charisma kept people laughing for hours with his insatiable zest for life.
That zest was somewhat dimmed when he lost his beloved soulmate Christine six years ago.
Richie was known for his deep love for his family and being loved and admired by others. His greatest accomplishment was making people feel loved, and always had words of wisdom for anyone who desired it. His love was felt by his family and friends alike, and by anyone who came in contact with him. He always had a compliment for people, and was a man who genuinely meant all his words.
Richie loved the Lord with all his heart, and prayed for people and their souls every day and night.
Richie spent the last six years of his life having multiple daily phone calls with his brother David, enjoying many laughs, consistently keeping up phone visits with his cousins back in Cleveland, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchild, loving and encouraging his children, and dreaming of dancing with his wife again one day...
It isn’t hard to believe that the Lord may have greeted him with these words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” -- Matthew 25:23

Ritchie ,We cannot believe that you left us so fast. We spoke on the telephone for an hour a week before you got sick. We talked and laughed about the same old
stuff we always talked about. Somehow, it always seemed like we were hearing it
for the first time. Although we are all broken hearted that you left us, we hope it is true that you are now in heaven with the love of your life Christine and all of our
relatives. I’m sure that Uncle Gelo will show you around and introduce you to all of
our relatives from the past. He’ll say, “ Ritchie, this is your Gramma Amato’s
Great grandmothers GREAT,GREAT Grandmother “. I wish it is true. Kiss everybody
For us Richie . Say hello to “ JO PLEASE “. Love you and miss you. Onge.

Only a man of great integrity and class could have created a daughter with the same integrity.. Nicole you are a chip off the ol block.. Your daddy’s beautiful, pure light shines from him, through you, into the World.. I thank you for your beautiful spirit in my life and I thank both your parents for producing such a magnificent human.. I’m so very sorry you have to bear the loss of your rock and paternal rockstar.. He reunites with your beautiful mommy and blissfully celebrates that reunion, all the while looking back to protect his baby girls and loved ones left behind.. Hold close the truth that our Lord has him and all your loved ones cradled in safety as those who are here in earth finish our destiny.. Your day to reunite with your family is predestined, but your life here on earth is still yet to be fully filled! Make your Mommy and daddy proud while you complete your time here on the planet.. Live, love, laugh and leave your mark.. Love you Nic.. Suzi Carlopio

Richie I am so glad that you are not suffering anymore. And now you can be with Christine and the rest of the family. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family. My heart breaks that my grandchildren won't have a chance to meet you (their great grandfather), or Christine. My heart breaks because Amanda won't be able to make it today because of the "no fly zone" at her base in Afghanistan. I love the man that would antagonize me with your video recorder back in the day. I am thankful that you were able to get in touch with and talk to my son Richard when my family and I couldn't .
RIP Richie love your first daughter-in-law

Uncle rich was a great guy! He looked out for family first as he saw the rest come n go. Christian , tina and Nicole you were his life and aunt Chris was the reason he lived.
I grew up with you guys but watched your dad as I did my own. His movements the way he dressed how he enjoyed life and loved to tell stories. About the old days. I loved his sauce and aunt Chris meatballs. That combo was the best. And watching them work together was true love I loved the Sunday dinners we had with you guys.
Uncle rich always had a good story. Here’s mine of him...I bought my first house when I was 20. Your dad was there helping me unpack a few things at the end of the night. I was making my bed and setting up my room He told me always make my bed and fluff it this way (down not up) roll down the top sheet so it’s like a new bed every night that will take away the days stresses and I would have a lot of them. He knew what the world had coming for me! I still try and make my bed every morning for the night I will always remember uncle rich “unk” as a true uncle. He was a great man. I didn’t realize how much I’d miss him.
I’m so sorry for all three of you. He loves you all so much. But he’s in a better place right now. No more suffering. Hes with your mom up in heaven smoking, having a drink or two telling stories to Jesus. How better does that get. No more suffering! Only love now... until we see him again let his memories live forever with your entire family. Tell the younger generation of all his good, great points. If more men were this way this world would be better!

I have so many great memories of Rich. He always made me feel like family.. always welcoming, always making me laugh. He showed me what a loving Dad looked like. There’s not many friend’s Dads that I could just sit and talk and hang out with, but I definitely could with Rich whether Niki was there or not.
I love you so very much Rich aka Dick.. I’ll tell Sparky hi for you. You tell Jesus hi for me.

Richie was an amazing father and husband. An amazing man who touched the lives of so many. He was the "Peacemaker" in the family. He loved unconditionally and always made you feel special and loved. I will miss everything about him. His phone calls, his smile, his laughter, his teasing and his hugs and kisses. The only comfort you can find in such a devastating loss is to know he is one again united with his beautiful and loving wife that he so dearly missed. Richie is loved dearly, he will be forever missed but he will NEVER be forgotten. I love you.

My deepest condolences. We lost one the kindest people I have ever met. The Amato’s were my second home as a kid. Richard was the pillar of the Amato home, the gold standard for the loving, Italian family. It is rare today to witness the level of love and joy that was a constant in their beautiful, traditional family. It was a testament to Richard whose sole commitment and priority was family... and the reason I wished I was born Italian.
He was an exceptional husband, Father, and friend. I know he will be dearly missed.

The world lost a great man, devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. I am so grateful for all the happy memories I have of times spent with Richie, Chris and their family., holidays, family dinners, Karaoke nites. Richie sang Fly Me to the Moon better than Sinatra!, and he was a natural comedian who was the life of any party.
Knowing Richie is dancing with his beloved Chris for eternity brings comfort to my broken heart. You will be forever missed.
