Richard and I shared a home in Oakland in the 1980´s, having met while living in Moraga some years earlier. He introduced me to fine dining, the life at Hiller Highlands Country Club, his sister Barbara, and my (now) former wife Renee. We all had a swell time for about three years. Fond memories of a man who brought joy to life and those around him.

Richard was my friend of many years. As a fellow teacher we´d swap stories of our successes and challenges, lessons, and triumphs. Those conversations were very dynamic and useful to us both. Like me he loved debate and public speaking, and would proudly speak of how his students (many from challenging family situations) learned how to present and persuade, and ultimately how to conduct themselves in the world under his tutelage. He also was a guest speaker in my classroom and spoke about the 60´s and Vietnam, which had left a deep mark on him. Renaissance Man, athlete, leader, and teacher. You are missed Richard.

Richard was a real hard-*** at times. But he was also quite sensitive and caring. I met him for the first time in a Peet's coffee shop. We did business off a handshake - as in we came to an agreement and made a deal. And after he followed through with his end, I liked the guy. He spoke so warmly about his step-children and with so much pride.
I hadn't spoken to him for some time since his stroke during COVID. And I woke up last night for some reason wondering if he was alive which was very odd for me. I did a quick search inquiry and this website popped up second in the results. It was heartbreaking to find out this news. And I'm grateful to have crossed paths with Richard and known him for the time I did.
Life is a journey, and he truly lived it as one.

Richard was a true Renaissance Man! He was a caring, smart, fun loving. And risk taking person. We loved him very much and were so happy when we could visit with he and Krista. We will miss him but so glad to have a brief time with him last fall. With live, Dan and Eve Kimball.
