I worked for Dick during my university years, before 1995. When we would tell him that we were going to pull a car into the garage to do an oil change, he'd say, "Why don't you drive it in?"
He had a metal clip that held all the "chits" or scaps of paper with names of people and what they owed, customers charging their gas instead of paying for it. I sometimes felt like people were taking advantage of him, that clip would be so stuffed that we could barely open it...perhaps that metal clip represented the size of his heart - he always had room for one more chit. Thank you, Dick. You were one of a kind, I feel very fortunate to have known you. Randy Kohan, Edmonton

My deepest sympathies to the family on Dick's passing. Great man, friend and co-worker for many years. His presence brought smiles to all around him, uplifting and energetic. He was truly blessed with that gift and now may he rest in peace, and give all that he had here on earth to the heavens above.

Dick and I were friends many years ago. We worked across the street from each other. He was a kind humble man who was easy to like. I really had a giggle when he was on Dave Letterman.

Dick, we will all miss you. You had a personality that was inviting and pleasant to all that met you. I was one of your sales reps in the days when you were a dealer at B A oil , Garnet and Dewdney . I can say that you and your two buddies, Fergie and Wally, were an interesting ,fun and successful group to do business with.
Rest in peace old friend.

Sad day. Many fond memories of cutting through Dick's Gulf station on Dewdney and Garnet on the way to school for many years. Dick was always willing to help a kid pump up a tire on a banana bike, or the scuffed up football of a kid who dreamed of being Ron Lancaster during those glory days. Rest well, sir. Your good name will endure

Dick was an awesome guy with a great sense of humor. I'd 'known' him for years even before the whole David Letterman thing. I just saw him about a month ago when I got gas, he was a icon at PetroCan. Getting gas won't be the same knowing he won't be behind the counter when I go in to pay. RIP.
