Richard Barile Obituary
Born in Manhattan, he moved to Midland Beach in the 1930s.
Mr. Barile was a laborer for Local 51, working at the Hess Refinery in South Amboy, N.J.
A friend of Bill W. for 36 years, he gave back to his community by helping others find a new life in sobriety.
Mr. Barile enjoyed people and was a great storyteller and listener.
He was also famous for his simplicity.
"Keep it simple, don't drink, go to meetings and it's all Mickey Mouse," were among his favorite phrases, his family said.
He loved sports and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
Mr. Barile was instrumental in forming the Men's Sparks Softball team in the 1970s, and played for the Midland Pharmacy Softball League in his youth.
He also had a love of reading, counting "The Sermon on the Mount: The Key to Success in Life" by Emmet Fox as his favorite book.
His daughter, Rita Ann Barile, died in 1956.
Surviving are his son, Richard; two daughters, Roseann Chin and Patricia Barile; a brother, Michael; a sister, Marianne Barile; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary R.C. Church, Midland Beach. Arrangements include cremation.
