Richard P. "Dick" Beck,
84, of Indianapolis, passed away April 24, 2015. He was born in Washington, IN, moving to Indianapolis in 1940. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1948 followed by four years in the U.S. Navy. He earned a BA degree at Marian College and a MA at Butler University. He taught English for 31 years, 23 of those at T.C. Howe High School, retiring in 1990. Dick held leadership positions in the Indianapolis Education Association. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife: Ruth M. (Joyce) Beck and two sisters: Sharon Goebel and Kay Perdue. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, April 28, 10:00 am in St. John's Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements. I will always cherish the memories of Norton's Landing softball, listening to your great piano playing, good stories and great advice. Rest in peace Dick. Your family is in our prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss. Gus and I will always remember Dick's smile and sense of humor that never faded regardless of the challenges he faced. He was a special man and always so kind to us. We loved him and will miss him dearly.

I had him for a teacher in Jr. High at school 51, he was a favorite teacher. So kind and a wonderful teacher. So sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers are with the family.

He taught at School 51 and was my teacher. He told me that I needed to learn to think before I spoke because my words would get me in trouble unless I learned some tact. It took me many years to learn this and sometimes I still slip, but I've never forgotten his advice to me even though I was only 14 years old. He was truly an amazing teacher.
