Richard Lewis Berg Jr.
March 23,1930 - January 28, 2016
Our beloved dad, teacher, and mentor, Dr. Richard (Dick) Berg, Jr., passed away due to natural causes on January 28, 2016. He was 85 yrs. old. Richard was born in Seattle, WA on March 23, 1930. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1951, ranking to Sergeant. He achieved a PhD in Social Anthropology from UCLA in 1968. He moved to Pocatello, ID in 1973, teaching at ISU until 1978. It is here in Pocatello that he raised his family and worked on his rich Christian faith. After his kids grew older, he moved to Kansas City, MO in 2004. Dr. Berg taught history and religion to high school students at the Academy of St. Vincent de Paul. Bud had a strong love of God and the Catholic Church. He was hard working, conscientious of others, had a great sense of humor, was honest, and absolutely loved to teach. He is survived by a brother, William Berg, a sister, Sally Berg Allen; his children, Trudi Berg, Richard Lewis Berg III, Hannah Berg, Heather Berg, and Heidi Garcia; his twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. Dad was the center of our universe and will be forever missed.

I was a student of professor Berg's at Idaho State University from 1975 - 1977. He was a special teacher, full of life, humor, energy and drive to succeed at everything he focused upon. Over the years I somethings reflected about his advice and guidance he gave us students, and that stayed with me. I understand that he was living a catholic monastic life as a brother during the last part of his life. That was also inspirational to me. I will light a candle and say a prayer in his memory.
