Richard G. Boone, 80, of New Alexandria, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, suddenly at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1927 in Greensburg, the son of the late Archie Boone and Mayme Johns Boone. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville. He was self-employed at Boone Motors and had drove truck for Ramaley's and Gosnell's. He also drove for the Smith Bus Company. Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He spent 25 years as a Boy Scout Leader. He also volunteered at Derry Area High School in a parent assist learning program in the Agriculture Department. He was a 4-H Leader in Westmoreland County and a volunteer at the Palace Theater in Greensburg. Richard was a past president of the Blairsville Kiwanis Club and a member of the Blairsville Cemetery Board of Directors. He is survived by a wife of 48 years, Nancy McKelvey Boone; sons, Gary P., Blairsville, and Glyn R. and wife Betsy, Leola; sister, Betz Mullen and husband Charles, Rodantha, N.C.; and grandchildren, Laura, Peter, Elizabeth, Joanna and Shane Boone. He was preceded in death by a wife, Annajane Long Boone. In keeping with Richard?s wishes, there will be no visitation. His body was donated to science. A Memorial Service was held Tuesday in the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville. Rev. Timothy Monroe officiated. Memorial donations may be made to the New Alexandria or Blairsville fire companies or to the New Alexandria Library.
