Richard Bulan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 17 to Sep. 19, 2009.
RICHARD BULAN, 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Monday, September 14, 2009 at Stamford Hospital. Born September 5, 1935 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Yolanda Horvath Bulan. Richard was a retired mail carrier having worked for the US Postal Service for 51 years. In addition, he was a part time employee of The Stamford Advocate for some 38 years. Serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, he was a member of the 86th Infantry Regiment assigned to the 10th Mountain Division. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Grace Carriero Bulan of Stamford; two sons, Gregg J. Bulan and his wife, Theresa of Trumbull and Richard J. Bulan and his wife, Anne of Monroe; a sister, Dorothy Osika of Stamford; and four grandchildren, Terry, Joseph, Matthew and Jessica Bulan. Also surviving him are in-laws, Peter and Donna Robotti and Frank and Ann Carriero, all of Stamford; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert N. Bulan; and his step-father, Joseph Lucskay. Richard greatly enjoyed time spent travelling with his wife and was a very talented handyman. His many interests included fishing, cooking, chess, bird watching, and music. He was also an avid N.Y. Yankees and N.Y. Giants fan. Possessing a great sense of humor and a tremendous work ethic, Richard treasured his family and many friends. He was well known for the kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness that he showed toward the many people whose lives he touched. These traits, along with the dignity that he showed, gained him the respect and love of many. The world was a better place because of his being here and he will be greatly missed. Friends may call in the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, Saturday, September 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Alzheimer's Association, 279 New Britain Road, Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037. Dear Grace,Richard, and Gregg,
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Richard. Your entire family will have a very special place in my heart forever. From the most delicious plums from his plum tree, to a weekly Saturday night babysitting job, hide and seek with the kids and adults, band practice in his garage, Easter morning breakfast together, and of course the "Rock" Recently I would see him in Grade A and we would even share what was for dinner that night. What a guy! The Bulans are a part of Barmore Drive memories, thats for sure, and he will be truly be missed. Thanks for all the memories,"Big Richard"
With love and fond memories

My brother Gregg and I sincerely thank everyone for their kind gestures and sympathy during this extremely difficult time. Your words and stories have been very comforting and have given us a chance to smile a bit, My father touched so many people, but at the same time all of you were the reason he enjoyed his job and his life as much as he did. He will truly be missed. Gregg and I cannot thank you all enough for being there for our family as well as being there for my father.
