Cal was a devoted friend and frequent golf buddy of my husband Michael. Over a few beers they would relive their shots on the course or debate what plays should have been called in the last football game.
Cal was kind, generous, supportive, and a true gentleman.
If there is a pub in heaven he and Michael are sitting at the bar watching the latest golf tournament. We are thankful for the times we spent with him. He will be sorely missed.

I had Coach for driver's ed and always remember to "look further down the road" to keep in my lane. Good advice then and now. Condolences to family.

He was my drivers ed teacher. I graduated in 74. I saw him in the 90´s when I was grocery shopping in Western Springs. He remembered my name, I was surprised considering how many students he taught over the years. He was one of my favorite teachers.

"Hoonsie" was a special friend for many years. He was an LT colleague and taught Driver Ed to my daughters. We enjoyed many parties in our LaGrange area homes with mutual friends. He was known for his house parties after the Pet Parade. After I retired in 2003, we wintered in Myrtle Beach for 7 years and had countless dinners and rounds of golf in that area with Hoonsie and Loree. Last fall I was able to visit with him and share hours of happy memories. Heaven has truly gained another Angel.

Coach Callahan was a wonderful teacher and leader to our son Matt when Matt played football at LT years ago. Dick always had a smile and a kind word and was an inspiration to so many!

Dick lit up Woodland Avenue in Western Springs with his smile, kindness and positive attitude. We had the pleasure of living across the street for the past 20 years and he became a very dear friend. We visited often and he talked about his years playing football in college, coaching, golfing, his three sons and his grandchildren to name a few topics. We are forever blessed to have known Dick and will miss him greatly. He will always have a special place in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

I was one of the lucky students to have Mr Callahan as a drivers ed teacher. He would always have a comical comment about if my brothers knew how I drove. Great man. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Coach Callahan will always be remembered as a great coach and gentlemen. He was a life changing mentor to so many. His ability to get the best personal version of young people was his Legacy. I know personally as Coach always would ask me what my goals are and how could he help me in achievement of such goals. His smile was infectious and his attitude was of a great Leader. I truly loved Coach Callahan and will never forget the values he helped me build to move on with. Im a better Dad , Man and leader in my Football coaching carrier. God has one of the best with him now, Coach until we meet again, keep smiling. Love ya Coach !

I will always remember Mr. Callahan teaching me how to drive. He had the patience of a saint, I think, to teach all of us students for so long. I remember being terrified of him at first, but then realizing he was such a good man, and then I felt safe with him even out in blizzard snow and learning how to parallel park! God bless him and his family.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Callahan! He was a great teacher, loved his smile, his whole face smiled! He was my teacher in 1975, and I spoke of him often as the years past. Saw him a couple of times over the years in town, and still the same great smile! Thank you, Mr. Callahan!

Oh, I am so sorry. I had Mr. Callahan for Driver's Ed? Seriously! The impression of that face that jumped out at me! I am a magnificent driver because of him. I had after school class - rush hour, right? Manheim expressway and every other intersecting freeway. The man stepped on my foot on the gas and said, "You have to merge."
Good man. Balls of steel. Class of '72. Old hippie chick.

Papa Callahan spent loads of time with DJ. It was a true friendship. And he always made room for Nick to join in on the fun. Such a genuinely tremendous guy.
